Well after 33 months it’s finally time to say goodbye to my Maverick. No major problems over almost 3 years, just a few annoyances. Good news is I sold it for $500 more than I bought it for in Dec 22 (including tax), thanks Granger! When you add in the $6k profit on my first Maverick and the 0%, 36 month financing on this one it’s truly a remarkable thing.

No I will not be getting a new Maverick. The whole point was cheap transportation and the Maverick is not that anymore, so this is probably goodbye to the forum as well.

Next week I’ll be picking up a new 2025 Equinox EV LT2 FWD for $247/month for 24 months 0$ out of pocket…my cheap transportation journey continues. Later!

p.s. I will be posting my excellent condition snow tire set, mounted on my original steelies with tpms. Look for them soon on the marketplace!

Is that adjusted for inflation? If I ballpark the MSRP of a 2022 Maverick XL EB AWD 4k tow at $26,000 back in December 2022, that would equate to $29,960 today.

Keeping it to today's dollars, if you sold it for $26,500 today, that would be a loss of about $3,460. Still, less than $1,200 a year in depreciation is really good nonetheless.

Thanks to Granger my out the door price (including tax I paid when I got home) was $24,200. I put $6k profit from my first Maverick sale down and financed $18k at 0% (or $500/month). So I made a ton on first one and did very well on second one since I paid no interest and got my tax back. I get the inflation argument but I’m perfectly happy with my outcome.

Good luck with your journey. Doesn't seem like you use all the capability of Maverick, so makes sense to move on. I can take 4 people on a 1000 mile winter road trip with lots of gear and no top box on the roof. Not many vehicles can do that. I think the capabilities attracted us just as much as price.

Thanks, like I said my journey was cheap transportation. I used it a few times for mulch, towed a trailer a few times and drove it cross country, but 90% of the time it was used for errands around town. It was a great vehicle and Ford should be proud.

Most of the original Mavericks are dust. Like you - their owners moved on to better vehicles. I sometimes wish I kept my 1970 Chevy Nova, but in hindsight not practical.

I still hope a few of our 2nd Gen Mavericks make it to 2070!

You and I have very different views of vehicle purchases. I buy mine to drive them, not as an investment. I have a job to earn money.
I can see both sides of the coin. My idea of "cheap transportation" would be a $5,000 Toyota Camry that you drove until the wheels fall off. But some people see value in modern amenities, so to have a brand new EV for $6000 for 24 months is a great value to others, especially knowing that there are predictable costs and a defined end time, not just banking that the ole Camry will make it another 10,000 miles.

My coworker has a full-time job...to pass the time and stay relevant, I suppose. He was an early part of the FIRE movement and made a lot of sacrifices, such as not owning a car, living in a cheap apartment, never eating out, and having virtually no hobbies. He now owns his house outright and his investments make enough passive income for him and his wife to live off of.

I see myself driving this Maverick until it's well into the category of old. With most of my vehicles, they're driven until over 200 000 miles. Hopefully by the time I get another vehicle, they'll be making something other than crossovers and SUVs. Otherwise, I'll probably get another small truck, possibly Ford's upcoming (if it ever happens)EV truck will be perfected by then.
