Hi everyone,

I own a 2023 XL Hybrid, and I've been chasing a rattle-like noise coming from the passenger side rear seat area ever since the truck was new. I have searched the MTC forums for others who have encountered a similar issue, and have performed the following: (With no success)

I removed everything that I have stored under/behind the seat, including the jack. No change.

I inspected the area around the passenger side rear speaker, and placed foam under some panels to tighten up the fit. No change.

I took apart the rear passenger side door panel and checked for potential noise sources. I placed foam between plastic areas that were in contact with each other. I also removed and taped up the window switch assembly, as I have read that it could rattle and make noise. No change.

I inspected the latch that holds the rear seat back upright, and added some electrical tape around the anchor to make the fit tighter. No change.

I inspected all three seat belt receivers that protrude through the bottom seat cushion. At one point I had thought that I had found the problem, as one of them made a similar rattle like noise when shaken. The noise still occurs if the belts are fastened or not. No change.

I inspected the bolts that hold down the seat back on both sides of the truck. All were tight, no change.

One thing I have noticed is that the noise does *not* occur if there are people sitting in the back seat. My wife has driven the truck while I have tried to pin point where the noise is coming from, but all I can tell with any certainty is that it is coming from the passenger side rear.

As I have mentioned, I have been dealing with this since I bought the truck new. While the noise isn't really loud, and occurs only when going over rough/bumpy roads, it ruins an otherwise quiet ride. Any help or advice with troubleshooting this issue would be greatly appreciated! My truck is still under warranty, but I would rather not go to the dealership unless I really had to.

Thanks in advance!

Could be so many things from a wire harness connector rattling against plastic trim or interior parts whether it's behind the pillar cover or underneath the rear seat for the seat belts.

I'm the same way when it comes to a rattle it drives me nuts until I chase it down one of my favorite things to do to any new car is put sound deadening material in the doors on the floor of the interior as well as sound deadening foam definitely helps with the rattles and sometimes you can place the foam around wire harnesses inside doors and interior panels to keep them from rattling as well.

Thanks for the reply, Todd. I'll take a closer look at the wiring harnesses and such next time I go in there. I keep several types of foam on hand for this exact reason.

Possibility the seat latch isn't tightening down enough? I had my back latch replaced with improved part for holding the seat back up.

Since it stops rattling when the rear seat is occupied, obviously I would suspect that it's the seat itself or something attached to it.

Have you driven the truck with the seat bottom locked in the up position or with the seatback in the folded position to pinpoint? I would try each of those separately to see if either configuration affects the sound.

I have the same problem. Only when I go over 70.

I thought it was my soft bed cover. Nope

I thought it was my sliding rear window. Nope

I thought it was the center seat belt. Was so confident I removed it. Nope.

Drives me nuts.

My cabin noisy. Son ride w me one time, seems noise coming from dash, pass side. Really knocking sound.

I removed EVERYTHING inside the truck, still some rattles. Then removed the add on tray in the console armrest compartment and everything inside. Test drive. Oh, things got quiet!! So perhaps it’s that plastic add on tray vibrating there, sending it thru console to the dark. Maybe? Put all stuff back in storage, carefully wrap, shield in rags, plastic bubble wraps. Test drive, and no noise. Next I need my son to ride, listen, see what happening if rsttle/knock minimized. If not dealer can deal with it.

Im anxiously waiting arrival of the Toyota new Stout truck to arrive. Like the Maverick, but worry.

Mavericks are inexpensive trucks. Yes they have rattles in the back seat area, the dash area, anywhere two items touch each other loosely. I agree with you to never go to the dealer for a rattle problem, better off finding it yourself.

Interesting. I only tried opening and closing the window on the highway which didn't change it much. Could be rattling in the track. I will try wedging something in there and report back.
I have the same rattle, but I don't have the opening rear window, so I doubt it's that. I had guessed either the seatbelt buckle sitting just wrong, or the hitch I have stored under the seat. But the rattle in mine is just infrequent enough that I haven't tried hard to find it yet. (I did have the dealer do the service to the passenger side dash though.)

I have tried with the seat back folded, but not with the bottom portion raised. I’ll give that a try. Thank you Tbone.
