My XLT Hybrid Maverick's 3rd birthday is today so my 3 Year Warranty has ended. Is it worth purchasing the Extended Warranty? Have 26,000 miles over first 3 years, do take a 4,000 miles trip each Spring so Roadside Assistance is a little plus. Biggest concern is can the local non-Ford dealer mechanic service the Ford product without access to the diagnostic software. Never had Extended Warranty on any other vehicles...but my dealer charges $90 for any service requiring accessing the computer system, even if nothing is found wrong.

Your thoughts?
I would, we have the hybrid and its going into the shop today with some major problems, I bet 5 grand worth of repairs

No its not......I work @ a FoMoCo dealership in service and see this all the time. If not a trans it can be a EcoSport engine.
Yikes, second guessing my Maverick purchase, mopar doesn't sell a small truck anymore. I have a 52 yr old dodge, original tranny.a 15 yr old ram, original untouched tranny, and a 15 yr old dodge caravan with the tranny untouched.and....lifetime fluid, you don't have to change it every 30 thousand miles.

You may want to look a bit deeper into the marketing concept of "lifetime" :cautious:
4 caravans - 175K on latest.
For what its worth, look into the value of regular ATF+4 fluid/filter changes on the 62TE

The first time I purchased an extended warranty was in 2022 for the Stinger. Vehicles have become way more complicated—full of cameras, electronics, screens, AI features—you name it. If one thing goes wrong, it could cost you hundreds, probably thousands. So why not spend $3K on an extended warranty and sleep well at night? I’m positive it will pay for itself many times over.

2023 Hybrid XLT here w/ 30K - haven't had any problems with it - Love the Maverick MPGs!
Looking into the extended wty mainly to cover CVT and axles
Does anyone know what it costs to replace the axles /CV joints?

I take it to mean lifetime for the original owner.which is 15 years and counting for both our caravan and ram. Selling the caravan this spring, keeping the ram at least another 5 years. If these were fords we would have spent alot of money on fluid changes every 30 thousand miles.

I will say I bought a 100k warranty on my previous car, at like 99,900 I went in, and they did full exam on car, and found leaky shocks, struts, sway bar links/bushings etc, I think they just bs'd but they replaced everything, far exceeding the $700 bucks I paid for that warranty

this was back when dealerships was slow, who knows if ford will do the same courtesy as it seems dealerships dont care for warranty work now a days as it pays far less
I had a 1991 that had a 10yr/100k warranty cost of $1225.00. had AC at 6 years and at 99,320 miles with 8+ years took in and said "fix everything warranty covers. Ran about $3600.00.

anyone have a ballpark on cost difference buying a warranty extension with the new vehicle vs around the 30k (i.e. still within regular warranty) mark? Picking up the maverick in a month or so and I'm sure the dealer will try an upsell...

I'm am 62 and have owned an estimated 15 new vehicles in my life. I have never purchased or regretted not purchasing the extended warranty. When I bought the Maverick, the extended warranty was $1800 to extend the warranty an extra two years. So you are basically paying upfront for a possible major repair between the 3rd and 5th year of ownership. A new transmission is around 3K. If my tranny went after the expiration of the factory warranty, I would be paying an extra $1200 over the extended warranty cost. Oh well. I'm way a head of the game having turned down that money maker for the dealer 15 times already. There is a reason why they push these warranties and it isn't because they care about you.

Bought my $36,000 Maverick and got back $1050 from my 2021 Bronco Sport extended warranty.
I paid $2,000 for an extended warranty out to 100,000 miles.
It’s like insurance, hope I never need it.
IMO it’s so cheap.
I’d not ever drive one of these overly complex vehicles without being under warranty.
I will trade in the Mav before I hit 100,000

By then I’ll want a new toy anyway.
$40 a month for piece of mind, easy decision.

I replyed to others on this forum, but here's what I did. I also have a hybrid that I intend to keep for at least 7 years. I bought an extended warranty from Granger for 10 years, 60K miles (I drive less then 5K a year) for $1175. I'm not worried about the hybrid components, they are covered for 8 years, 100K miles. It's the electronic things I want covered by Ford. I can live with a $100 deductable, but don't need a bill for over a thousand bucks when a computer fails. If I sell my truck in 7 years, that still has 3 years left on a transferable warranty, I will get top dollar. Also get the light coverage (about $50 I think) the cost for a headlight on a Lariat at this time, is $1300. I would rather have it, and not need it, then need it, and not have it.

I bought 1 once in 2014 on an F150 that extended the power train to 10/100k. I knew when I was buying the truck I would hit 100k with in 3 years. I did and never used the factory or extended warranty once in 100k miles. But it was only $650 for that warranty so not too bad. When I priced the extended warranty for the Maverick I bought in April to cover electronics to 100k miles was over 3000.
Yep, but a stupid head light is something like $1400. Used to be AC was 50/50 chance of going out in 5-6 years but last longer now. Now instead of buying extended warranty I just purchase $100/month of Ford stock and make decision just before the 3yr/30k expires to keep buying stock or buying the warranty or trading vehicle in.

You may be right, but I think only the hybrid battery is covered under warranty for 8 years. I opted out of extended warranty since my 3 yrs Hybrid only has 30,000 miles on it. Just not worth it. I usually get tired of a vehicle in 4, 5 years and look for something new.

only if the extended warranty even covers it

I bought an extended warranty ONCE because the finance guy managed to successfully give me anxiety about the cost to replace any of the computers in my old WRX. I had that vehicle for 16 years and never engaged the extended warranty a single time. Nothing that actually needed done over the years was ever covered by it.

Put the same money into a savings account or invest it in an index fund like $SPY instead. There’s a good chance you’ll come out way ahead earning interest and dividends on it rather than paying interest
