Is the Maverick Extended warranty worth it?

My XLT Hybrid Maverick's 3rd birthday is today so my 3 Year Warranty has ended. Is it worth purchasing the Extended Warranty? Have 26,000 miles over first 3 years, do take a 4,000 miles trip each Spring so Roadside Assistance is a little plus. Biggest concern is can the local non-Ford dealer mechanic service the Ford product without access to the diagnostic software. Never had Extended Warranty on any other vehicles...but my dealer charges $90 for any service requiring accessing the computer system, even if nothing is found wrong.

Depends on what "service" is needed. Reputable local mechanics have the equipment to diagnose & fix a lot of problems by connecting to the standard OBD2 diagnostic port on modern vehicles.

If your warranty has expired, it will cost you significantly more to buy a Ford extended warranty now, if it's even possible. Contact Granger Ford in Granger Iowa about buying one. Or Flood Ford.

Be aware, the Hybrid part of your vehicle is still under warranty and will be covered until 8 yrs/100,000 miles.

If you plan to keep your Maverick for another 5 years or more, I would suggest you get a quote from Granger today in order to cover the electronics that are not covered. if you need just one replaced, that will cost you more then half of what the ESP costs. But do it today to get locked in.

Letter from Ford today advising of pending warranty ending.
Called Ford directly and got a quote of $3,050 for Premium Extension of warranty for 85,000 miles or 5 years and included Road Side assistance and rental car during repairs. Premium covers pretty much everything but oil changes, tires, brakes, lights as expected. Ext Warranty is priced based on current mileage...my mileage is 9,000 a year. Tough decision since new I have only had 2 minor recalls....a display screen cable that became disconnected...far less problems compared to last 4 new cars.

...for $3,000 my first reaction is keeping truck for 2 or 3 years and trade for a new one for 3 more years of warranty...but prices of Maverick will probably continue to increase in price. Next step is to call Granger.

I tend to agree....accept for availability of any other service provider...for service on carplay and other electronics that may be a necessity for Ford Service.

I dont want to pay the money, but part of me says, 1800 or whatever, no worries for 7 years. its a 40k vehicle, small price for overall protection for at least 7 years

I only have 9500 miles on my hybrid, and my 3 years are up March 9th. I got an ESP from Granger for 10 yrs, 60K last year for $1175. I'm 84, so this should be my last new vehicle, and cover me till I turn 92!

Extended warranties are similar to home owners insurance policies in that you rarely use it but when you need to, it can save you a butt ton of money out of your pocket. You are really purchasing Peace of Mind. If you are risk-averse, you should consider buying one. If you don’t mind the gamble, keep the money in your pocket. Peace of mind is worth more to some people than to others.
One word that is helpful in deciding weather or not to buy a warranty;

I will say I bought a 100k warranty on my previous car, at like 99,900 I went in, and they did full exam on car, and found leaky shocks, struts, sway bar links/bushings etc, I think they just bs'd but they replaced everything, far exceeding the $700 bucks I paid for that warranty

this was back when dealerships was slow, who knows if ford will do the same courtesy as it seems dealerships dont care for warranty work now a days as it pays far less

I will add that I used to work at a Dodge truck dealership, in both the Sales and F&I dept. My wife was a Service Writer in the Service Dept. The service guys loved when people came in who had a warranty. They were able to find a lot of things that were less than perfect with a vehicle, R&R them at no cost to the customer and get paid a fair rate directly from the manufacturer without surprise. It was a win/win for everybody.

The following statement is of my own opinion though:
NEVER buy an extended warranty from anyone other than the manufacturer.
If you own a Ford, only buy it from a Ford dealership (like Granger or Flood)

I usually don't purchase extended warranties but that doesn't mean that's the right way for everyone. For some people they can be a piece of mind for the unexpected. Also, I truly think a large part depends on how long someone plans on keeping the vehicle. Are you trading it in for new model after 4-5 years of ownership? If so it probably isn't worth the added cost in most cases. What if you plan on keeping it a least 9-10 years? In that case it can make a lot more sense depending on the cost of the warranty itself.

Also to say that extended warranties are always a waste of money is just simply not true:

*Purchased Land Rover For $26,998 + $3,699 Carmax warranty.

You can purchase a new Ford ESP until 41 months, 41,000 miles, although last I checked it costs about $100 more versus within 36mo/36k. Beyond that one would need to purchase a used Ford ESP.

I've been contemplating extended warranties as well, though my vehicle has yet to arrive. Like you, I tend to/want to own it for a decade or more. Things I consider:

• My car was 10-years-old last October and looking back, it cost me over $8,000 since 2019.
• An extended warranty for ten years/150,000 costs a little over half of that, so I have to think that any single major repair will pay for the warranty.
• Ford's reliability numbers are worse than my current vehicle's manufacturer's.
• Ford has led the industry in recalls for several years now.
• The 2025 Maverick has two large screens than can go pear-shaped and will not be cheap to fix, and one of them has both the climate controls and the entertainment controls.

I agree with the posters who have pointed out that EW's are like insurance. For the EW companies to prosper, they need to make more than they pay out which means pricing the EWs so that the majority of folks pay more for them than they get out of them. Like insurance, you kind of hope NOT to get your money's worth, or at least I hope not to have a my house burn down just to get my money's worth out of my insurance. Rather, the EW is there in case you need it, not so that you can get more from it than you put in.

Granger, Flood, etc. make the calculation a little easier because my "break even" point is much lower, but ultimately, I probably still wouldn't get my money back. Unless I do in which case I'll be very glad to have "wasted" money on an EW.

I think for me, it's almost more a question of regret. Which will I regret more if I'm wrong, paying for an EW when it turns out a decade from now I didn't need to or not having one and needing a major repair in the truck's later years. Maybe looking at it that way will help you decide.
