Hello
Recently i had some alerts and check engine light come on in my 2022 maverick XL, about 68k miles - I took it in to the local ford dealership- they say its the throttle body, they change it, about $1200 later its fixed and i get it back. I thought this was a lot of money for this work so i look into it further. I find the 2022 ford warranty guide and under the federal emissions warranty section(pg 22) this specific part is listed by name, throttle body assembly, page 27. I go back to the dealer and speak with the service manager and he said that when they ran the part number no warranty came up and he didn't even know what i was looking at for the federal emissions warranty and he didn't seem to want to, he brushed me off as quick as he could. The general manager wasnt there on that day. The federal emissions warranty goes 8 years or 80k miles. Has anyone had any experience with this? I feel like they are ripping me off.

update:
The emissions warranty only covers the throttle body for 2 years / 24k miles. The 8 year 80k miles part of that warranty only covers larger items like the catalytic converter, electronic emissions control unit and onboard emissions diagnostic devices, including the battery energy control module and emissions related reprogramming of modules.

thanks for all the input though- its nice to have this forum to talk with other maverick and ford owners

As long as you feel you have done adequate research. You may consider filing a complaint with the EPA.
  1. Contact the EPA: The EPA investigates failures of manufacturers to comply with emissions warranty terms.
    • If you have followed the manufacturer's procedures and remain unsatisfied, you can contact the EPA by writing to: Warranty Complaint Field Operations and Support Division (EN-397F) U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Washington, D.C. 20460.
    • You can also file a report online through the EPA's website.
Good Luck

$1200 man dealers are proud. I’ve had to replace them on vehicles before and nothing to that cost. Holy smokes

Its ridiculous- i was lucky to get it in right away, if i would have had to schedule service it would have been two weeks- and they have access to the software needed for certain repairs, so they really have you on the hook and they know it

Before you report them to the EPA, AG, BBB, etc - escalate it up the ladder at the dealership and if no dice, to a Ford regional rep. Calls, emails, etc - log them. If you don't get proper compensation, go to a hardcopy letter sent with certified mail.

Then if no $, go to the reporting route. It is highly likely it may take longer once there are reports to agencies. You can use the reporting threat as leverage, but wait to report. My 2 cents.

and yes, most dealers, owners, etc don't know or care about emissions warranties. Yet they cover A LOT of components for A LONG TIME.

here is the update, they do cover alot of parts, just not for a long time. they cover many parts for 2 years/ 24k miles- which falls within your regular warranty so unless im missing something, seems pretty redundant. i appreciate your input- i still feel ripped off but thats what i get for getting work done at a dealership.

Ahh crap. Only the major parts are 8/80 coverage. Darn.

Depending on when it was built (and the corresponding emissions standard on the sticker under the hood) some '22s were SULEV emissions certified. Which in CARB states extend coverage of certain emissions-related components to 15years/150k miles.

I thought $1200 was a lot for a throttle body and did a quick look online multiple online Ford sites show under $180 for throttle body and gasket +tax & shipping, so probably $200.
Seems like $1k to install a throttle body is a bit much, but that's just me.

My brother went to the dealership because the coolant temperature sensor on his van was bad. They quoted him 4 hours to replace it "because the radiator and a whole bunch of components have to be removed in order to access it".

He figured that was a load of BS so he went to the local independent mechanic who changed the sensor in under 10 minutes without having to remove anything at all 🙄
