I recently did an oil change on my 2024 Lariat Hybrid. Did not fill the filter with oil. After installing the new filter and oil, went into the cab to start the truck. Engine started by depressing the gas pedal, but I did not see a low oil pressure warning which is typical for the 1 to 2 seconds it takes to fill the filter. Don't see and individual idiot light. Manual says its there, but is there an actual independent light, or is it a part of the display, and why do think it didn't come on, perhaps a delay.

It's such a small 🤏 oil filter, it probably only takes a 1/2 second to fill it once the engine starts.
Realistically, if you don't have any type of lubrication residue left on your bearings from the time you drained your oil to the time you restarted your vehicle. You have bigger problems than not pre-filling your miniscule oil filter.😱

🤔 On Your hybrid, does the engine start every time when you turn the key?

No. I can back out the garage on battery, engine usually starts first time I depress the gas pedal.

Why did you not fill your filter and save the engine bearings from 2 seconds of dry operation?

I've never filled an oil filter nor had a low oil pressure warning after an oil change, so I have no idea what you are asking?
Right there with ya.

I've never filled an oil filter
actually, I'd never even *heard* of doing it until this thread!

synthetic oil "clings" to metal, leaving a bit of film. This is how engines survive longer after running out of synthetic than plain oil (but still a horrible idea!)

I can't imagine the brief period being a problem.

I know there are opinions on this both ways, if I recall correctly the manual mentions filling the filter with oil as part of the required amount for proper filling. Take that for what it is, Ford's manual writers point of view.

Filling the filter, or not, we are off topic. There usually is a low pressure warning light activated after an oil change for the brief one to two seconds it takes the engine to fill the filter. Where is that oil pressure warning on the Maverick. Its not an idiot light, so is it in the program on the dash displace, like the low tire pressure warning.

I've never seen that warning light after an oil change in more than 30 years of changing oil.

If you didn't see a "Low Oil Pressure" warning.
Then there wasn't a low oil pressure situation, to be warned about.
On my 350 diesel, low oil pressure is shows up in the center instrument display.

In any case, as I mentioned earlier. If your bearings are dry or are lacking any residual lubrication, between the time that you drain the oil and refill it and start the engine to check for leaks. You my friend, have bigger problems than pre-filling the miniscule oil filter will solve.

Filling the filter (or not) doesn't matter when changing the oil. When starting the engine or just running, oil is drawn from the oil pan by the oil pump, is sent through the oil passages to the journals, bearings, etc. and the last path for the oil is the new filter before entering the oil pan again. There is no oil starvation with an empty filter.

Nope, you have it reversed. The oil goes through the oil filter before going anywhere else. Filling the filter makes a big difference in how long before you have sufficient pressure.
