Hi, I was among the first to get the SSM update on my '22, and I had an existing AGM. It is not a silver bullet. I just got another battery saver message 12 hours after driving it last.

It may not be worth fighting for the update if Ford won't give it to you for free. It's not a universal fix.

But was your battery already in a low state?
Had you been getting Battery Saver or Deep Sleep notices prior to upgrade from time to time?

Because the Update doesn't cause more charging, only prevents extra discharging if caused by something dealing with ACCM already.

They may have had a maintainer on the battery while doing the update - hopefully.
If so that's the only extra charging you got out of it - unless they stated they did a full charge for ya.
If they did state in work order a full charge up, did truck sit locked that night for at least 8hrs?

I fully charged it at the time of the software update a few weeks ago through the BCM. I did not have battery saver messages from the time I had the update applied and fully charged until the last few days. The battery saver message now occurred again < 12 hours after I last drove it.

Yeah, you've either got a sulphated battery or a bad connection. An AGM battery only delays the problem because of its higher reserve capacity and it was probably about to fail. I'd also bet that since it was not stock, they did not test it correctly and couldn't have charged it correctly.

They sent me out with a new Bronco! That was a surprise for me, but the service manager said they always use new vehicles as loaners! Wow!

An update here. It took a MONTH to completely fix my Maverick from the software update, but now I have my Maverick back and it's good! They ended up replacing the 12-volt battery and the AC compressor - TWICE! They had at least three Ford engineers working to figure out the problem. I really appreciate all you guys who posted info from Ford here. I sent it along to my shop. The day I picked my truck up, the service guy said that the info I was sending was at most hours after they got the same info from Ford. He said "those guys are right on top of things". Thank you! And.....I'm so happy to have my Mav back!

I'm a tech and also had to replace the compressor twice and go back and forth with the tech support team for a couple of weeks.

My 22 hybrid maverick with 31000 miles I have never had a battery issue that I can remember, maybe once it said it was in a low function mode or something but I just drove it and it was fine.

I was thinking about changing the 12v battery but this crazy thread to big to read thread is making me think I should let sleeping dogs lie since I haven't had any problems. the one guy said it toasted his AC! I live in Arizona and it's summer I cant have that!! Anyway my 12v battery is not an AMG it is the battery that came with the car, I am going to the dealer Monday because I suspect a broken motor mount but there is a list of updates that the app says I need, 3 recalls, I did a few last year too but the three are under hood fire, body control bcm software, and frozen rear camera. Should I decline the updates? Should I ask for a battery replacement or leave well enough alone, it obviously wont last forever. I started off looking for information on what battery to use and what if anything special that needs to be done to replace it but I couldn't find that information.

thanks

1st - you aren't going to get a battery replacement under warranty if you aren't having any issues.

2nd - all kinds of threads on a replacement AGM battery you can get - search for hybrid agm. And your manual for the process.

3rd - Just enough examples like yours of no issues that makes many of us wonder what must be different. Congrats!

4th - If yours is still a VIN in the range for the "fire" issue - you'll want the recall which is an update to give you a clue BEFORE the engine throws a rod, and extends your warranty. You skip it - it's all on you for ignoring it.

5th - The BCM update for taillights, may prevent a light from not working you'd not notice - but an officer might. The rear view camera upgrade will bright up your screen.

You wouldn't get the ACCM upgrade this thread is about because no battery issues, so no worries there.

Thanks, the dealer drilled holes in my fiber "skid plate" before I picked it up and the little flap is missing, this was supposed to drain the oil from a rod blowing through the case and keep it from busting into flames? ( pleasant thought) I do have the extended warranty that comes with the possible bad crank, I cut open and inspected my last oil filter, I do my own oil changes, and I had sent off an oil sample to Blackstone labs previously. I am pretty sure I dont have a burred up crank thats chewing up a rod bearing because I am not getting any bearing material in the oil analysis or in the filter media.

As far as changing the battery goes when I search things like "agm hybrid" all I get are threads like this talking about this parasitic draw or whatever the problem is and I am thankful I dont have that problem but I get nothing about what battery people are using or how long the stock one lasted or if there is anything special about doing it.

All I wanted to know was what battery are people running, because it seems like a tight fit under there and it is not an AGM battery it says BSL I think. Does that matter? And is there anything special about changing it? I would hate to start a problem that I dont have. But I am pretty sure I am going to leave well enough alone for now but here in the Arizona heat car batteries rarely last more than 3 years, this one might because its not so hot under the seat as it is under the hood.

Size H4 or Group 140R for AGM.

I'd search out who has it locally in stock - just in case it does die at a bad time.
Decide which brand has good rep, or good warranty easy to use locally.
Look at the top of your current battery to see it's already an H4, unless so original it doesn't.
Because few sites are going to list those as correct sizes, because it's not the Motorcraft model.
Tools and process?

I skipped that recall since it didn't actually fix anything and I didn't want them drilling holes in my under shield and tearing out my lower grill shutters.

You do need the other recall done that's for the programming to detect an engine failure, 23S27

Mine detected the failure and went into limp mode. They replaced my engine at at 39,000 miles and gave me a 3-year 36,000 miles extended warranty for free.

I didnt get the option to not have the holes drilled and the louvers removed, it was like that when I got it new

In that case your recall still listed is for the software programming to catch it before it blows - you'll want that one.

I had zero notice when mine went into Limp mode with the error code and needed the Engine replaced.

No metal in the oil on any previous oil changes or abnormal noises.

Thanks for the post, Jeff! I was able to take the SSM to my dealer today (June 2025) and have them apply the update. I got a new battery out of it as well. $0

Did they replace it with an AGM battery?
