About that Toyota Stout.
estimated 20MPG hwy 28 MPG city.

Those numbers will not compete with a Maverick.

So Toyota WOULD produce a small truck that would take buyers away from their more profitable truck because WHY? The Tacoma for some unknown reason to me has a cult like following and Toyota profits hugely from that. The Ranger did not garner the market share Ford hoped for because they screwed up so came out with the Maverick to take from the Tacoma/Frontier/Colorado market. Ram screwed up when it upsized the Dakota and realized it was an over sized small truck and not profitable anymore.
For the same reason Ford did it I would assume. I mean Ford took that risk that the Mav would take sales away from the other larger models. So far the gamble may be paying off. Especially if it is an existing parts bin/catalog exercise.

A fairly loaded Ranger isn’t far off from an F150, which is why Ranger sales are low. You can still get an extend cab Tacoma, 4 cylinder rear wheel, for WAY less than a Tundra. Toyota has been smart about that but a $34,000 Stout doesn’t have much market in my opinion.

Maybe Chevy will bring back the LUV! :cwl: Which stood for Lousy Utility Vehicle.
I had a Chevy LUV I bought used with 90k miles for $600 then drove it three years and sold it for $950. Got notice of impoundment about four years later and I could pick it up for towing and storage about $280. (Guy who bought it never registered it). I declined to bail it out as it had been a roadside parked vehicle apparently from quit running.

If companies didn't want to disrupt themselves, Ford would never have built the Maverick. And everyone on this site could have bought a Ranger or a Santa Cruz or just pounded sand.

For 7 years Ford held off reintroducing the larger Ford Ranger in the US, for fear that would negatively impact F-150 sales. And it's title of America's Best selling full size pickup truck.

Exactly what I posted. The Ranger filed to take market share form Chevy, Nissan, and especially Toyota in the midsize market so they tried to do it with a lower cost smaller truck and it worked. Ford screwed up with the Ranger thinking it would be a Taco killer.
Ford is pricing itself out of all the markets. Ranger would sell well at a lower price point. Instead it just languishes and many people have noted they can get into an F150 by the time they equip a Ranger they way they want it. So many just opt to get the lower trim F150 instead. Can't say I blame them there. Maverick prices are putting the brakes on sales already. They are one more price increase from sales stalling would be the look of it. One could only hope that competition in the space would act as a checks and balances here.

When a company prices a product they do it to make a profit. If they sold ALL Rangers at below cost sure they would gain sales. The price increase of the Mavericks and most vehicles is predictable when the cost to manufacture increases. Here's another business insight companies price based on what it WILL cost to replace inventory NOT on what it cost for inventory. So Ford has to increase the price to have working capital to continue. If they don't they become Chrysler, AMC, Jeep, Studebaker, Packard, etc.
They better learn cost control. I keep hearing people say that the average cost for a vehicle is now almost 50k, so stop whining about your "cheap" 30kish vehicles. My response to that is, "that does not mean it is a healthy auto market because prices are 50k. It means more and more people can no longer afford to buy a vehicle and that is reflected in declining sales. There is a difference.

Ford better figure out how to get some margin... Without killing the buyer. Report this week is that the new Blue Oval facility and the new mid size truck which is rumored to be a multi purpose platform for ice, hybrid, EREV, and EV will be cost competitive with the Chinese. This according to Ford. So maybe the new facility will help them find that margin they are looking for and vehicles at a price people can afford? I guess we will find out. They are talking 2027 now for the ramp up.

A base Maverick is around $28,000. That is thousands less than a base any other pickup.

Here is the current base price on the Maverick, and that is up substantially in just the last few months.

Might not want to pick a lease, there is no Acq fee on a purchase. Everything has different transportation costs so that shouldn't be included.

I hate when they default to lease... Here is the correct price.
