How will you know what you have unless you put it on a dyno? Better yet what does it do for you? More hp = equals more fuel consumption. So why buy a truck built for fuel economy then try to make it uneconomical? Maybe as a retired person who just needs to use a vehicle for transporting me and stuff I don't get it. Not a criticism just don't quite understand the engine modifications on a 4 cyl. Maybe it is a generation difference.
I grew up in Southern California (a place which doesn't exist anymore) in the '50s and '60s and it is close to sacrilege to question the need for more hp - just sayin' :)

Different time, different technology. And those engines were done at 50k miles stock. I grew up in the muscle car era and we laughed at people modifying 4 and 6 cylinder engines. The Maverick will never be a muscle car so why try to make it one?
since this is already a complete shitshow anyway, what mustang do you have?

Could it be that Ford is setting the stage for higher output versions of the 2.0? That would be nice.

hmm, example and counter example come to mind, both Cadillac:

The 472 of the late 60s, stroked to 500 for the Eldorado (and eventually put in the whole line in '75 during the Great Castration when the big ones couldn't get out of their own way with the 472). GM anticipated it hitting at least 600 cubes--but the oil embargo and emissions got in the way.

counter: the Northstar. Go on to a Cadillac forum, and there will regularly be posts asking about easy power boosts/mods fr more power.

Now, to be clear, this is an engine that kicked out 300 net horsepower in the mid 901!

And GM grabbed all of the low hanging fruit on enhancing it before shipping. OK, it started at 295, and went to 200 two years later, but that's it. In over three decades since it's been introduced, the only non-extreme boost found to date is that on a couple of years of devilles, the exhaust pipes could be straightened a bit for something like 5-10 extra hp. (there was a turbo version for a couple of years, but they hd to drop displacement to thicken the cylinder walls)

anyway, in almost all cases, engine design contemplates future refinements, but in rare cases, they get pushed during design for every last bit.

Yeah, swapping turbos and upping horsepower doesn't always have a happy ending. Plenty of evidence and recalls for that. Maintenance can be a big factor too.
Well plenty of very high mileage ecoboost with big power lasting a long time. Had a 3.5 over 500whp for over 400k and have a 2.0 tuned on e30 for over 200k
So it’s not all doom and gloom.

Because for some it’s fun. I modify everything.
I don’t own a single vehicle that’s not tuned. I enjoy the build g and mod process. It’s like anything else. I also love when my crew cab long box v6 absolutely smashes muscle cars. I love anything. Sleeper and love a good underdog. I lose my far share and more of the races with my maverick but I get a lot of oh wow faster than I thought. Kinda like going on the highway with a hellcat everyone knows it will be fast.

I’m impressed with this player ac units. Is that two 5 ton units. wtf you cooling? lol I do my whole 6300sq feet with one. Btw my mother in law has that same car in red. The hearing is pretty well done. Much quicker cars than most think.

Judging from your maverick you probably have some out of hand 3v with 800hp or a gen 2 coyote with a whipple.

If you're anything like me, you have the disease and got a maverick to have a normal car to drive around, but then got bored and decided you would ruin that also.

Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota, Audi, VW, etc. never designs an engine or transmission to handle 50% more than it was designed for. Exactly, machinery is run at near maximum all the time, 24/7. A automobile not so much and designed to handle speed limit running 100% of the time not maximum speed 100% of the time.
One exception might be GMs TH400, I had a well built 455 with about 450 hp & added 200hp NOS to that, moving a 5000lb car & never had an issue with it.
