We'll, it's not a generational thing. I'm 70 and I bought the Maverick because of the 2.0L Turbo engine. Because I have been a motorhead all my life, I've modified every car/truck/SUV I've ever owned to make them go faster. The 2.0L is great. I had two Escapes with that motor. With simple modifications I could leave a 4 foot streak from both tires (I have video proof). I only did it once, just to test how well it all worked and was surprised. Back to the generational thing. If you are a motorhead, you get it. If your not into more performance, you won't ever get it. That's cool. Just watch out if you challenge me and your lane ends. No offense intended, just trying to explain our motorhead madness.
I agree. I'm a motorhead, or gearhead as well.
I would call a 300 hp Maverick a "sleeper" - nobody expects it to be quick.

I’m not so sure I’ve had mine tuned for 80k miles and if you see my threads this thing gets abused with towing way above what it should. So far so good. If it goes out rebuild and keep playing.

What ever dude. But I don't challenge people on the road. Pulled enough dead bodies out of wrecks.
This is not rational.
To think it can never be safe to have fun is insane. Time and place my man.
You can’t bubble wrap your life. You have a higher chance of someone else running a red light on accident than a safe little road challenge.
So feel free to stay in the thread but stop with the moral superiority with others choices. He may live in rural nowhere like me where it’s safe to have some fun.

Sure, I get it. Hitting 70 myself and can't shake the power trip either but the Maverick isn't the right tool. The motorcycle and the sports car fill the need for speed. High performance in the Mav is carrying a couple of people, a load of manure and getting 40mpg.

What ever dude!!!! I repeat I DON'T CHALLENGE PEOPLE ON THE ROAD. You want to race go to a track. Hopefully you don't get pulled out dead or someone else due to your THRILLS.
Good for you sounds like you have an amazingly adventurous life.
Explain to me how two people on an open road having some fun is factually dangerous? To many variables. What’s the difference if a guy in his 300whp maverick accelerates wide open up to the 75mph speed limit while next to another car?

That wide open race as you could refer to it is still slower than a standard acceleration to 75 than in my gt500. It’s all perspective.
Can street racing be dangerous absolutely. But let’s not act like it the most dangerous thing possible or that it also can’t be safe.
it’s not for you fine but let’s not fault people for doing it either.
I’ve also like you seen enough human damage done in vehicles. But absolutely none of the dead or mangled people I’ve dealt with have been from street racing.
so maybe not drive at all is the only solution.
