You need to pay attention to the oil specs on the Hybrid especially. The correct oil does not cost any more to make. Oil and additives built for racing temperatures and pressures is completely wrong. Just any 0W20 with whatever additive package will not properly handle the typical colder running temperatures or the higher amounts of condensation typical in there engines.

When I said I didn't buy a hybrid because of the repeated start stop of the gas engine, just like I disable it on the EB, I was roasted for it. Years of dealing with hydraulic pumps, valves, and servo motors led me to know that startup when the most damage occurs to any hydraulic pump such as a ICE.
Truth ! Us old guys are often ignored. So many of the younguns believe everything that is spoon fed to them.

Guy in here wanted to run a different weight oil in his hybrid ICE
One day it will be sold without a warranty, used and the new owner or the next will suffer the consequences.

While I'm sure that with age comes wisdom, both of your calculations ignores the fact that the hybrid ICE is off at least half the time. This likely more than makes up for any added wear that comes from starting more often. The traditional ICE that is always running will easily have more engine wear over all. If you want facts, there are hundreds of thousands of high mileage hybrids on the road that beg to differ with your assessment as well. I should know, I had one of them before getting the Maverick, as do several family members.

I really like engineering explained's channel and this is a good video about how water is dealt with in modern lubricants. The title is good click bait, he's doing his job as an entertainer well. Having done over a million miles in hybrids over twenty+ years, I'm glad they solved this problem before hybrids entered the consumer market. Hard service is relative, and we solve those kinds of problems with engineering technology, great stuff!

Typical hybrid reply. Now tell me YOU never disable auto start/stop. Again I have my reasons for NOT buying a hybrid. It does not mean I think you shouldn't. But what you want for your reasons. Did you watch the video?
Typical ICE only reply. 😛 No, I never disable auto start stop, I have no reason to. I watched the video years ago when it was first posted on Youtube. It's not new information, this has been disccused by hybrid haters for long as hybrids have been around. All it means is that you need to keep up on oil changes. People who do 10k mile oil changes are fools, hybrid or ICE. You do you.

I haven't received my Hybrid yet but I plan to do what I've always done. I change my oil at least every 3K miles. And typically use the factory recommended oil while under warranty and use a synthetic oil after the factory warranty runs out. Regular oil and filter changes as well as air filter changes are a key to long engine life, even on Hybrids I suspect.

To summarize.....
-Change oil with oem recommended spec product.
-Do oil changes at recommended oem intervals.

And for the truly dense...
-Do not add eggs to your engine oil.

If you trust the engineering and factory recommendations for your hybrid why 3k oil changes? Did you watch the video? It literally said the Mobil 1 hybrid oil is good for 15k miles under worst case scenario.
Yes, I did watch the video. And I certainly agree that Mobil 1 is a good oil. I simply prefer to change oil at old school intervals and put fresh clean oil and new filter in every 3K. Been doing this since new on my 2017 F150 King Ranch 3.5 as well. It has 40K now and no issues and runs great.

Hello, I would recommend having a look at the multitude of threads on oils, distance between oil changes etc that are here, you have the time to do lots of research.

Then go with what you feel is best for your truck!

Oil technology has changed and is changing so I know I follow the manufacturers recommendations.

Cheers

Andy

I disable the auto start stop for safety reasons. If a a car is speeding toward the rear of my vehicle and I need to move to avoid being hit I don't want to wait for it to restart. 47 years in manufacturing of machinery to mold the majority of the parts on a Maverick. Mechanical items have a life cycle. Starters, batteries, etc. every time that starter is used it is 1 step closer to the end of life. I don't hate hybrids but I sense hybrid owners hate those of us who don;t like the vehicles. So you boast about the engineering and proven reliability of the hybrid then contradict that very engineering and date by saying you need to NOT follow the maintenance schedule because it is wrong!
To be clear, I don't hate people who like ICE only vehicles. It's not the type of vehicle I choose to drive, for a few reasons; I don't like newer automatic transmissions, and prefer to give as little of my money to oil companies as possible. I do dislike people who spread miss-information, information in a way that would mislead people to make their viewpoint stronger, or attack others for their choices, rather than having a rational discussion.

For an ICE only vehicle auto start stop isn't great for the system, as indeed it would be hard on the alternator and starter. Hybrids simply don't have that problem, no alternator or traditional starter to worry about and the 12v battery isn't used for ICE start, as I am sure you are aware. As for the maintenance schedules it's well known that manufactures make the schedules in such a way that the life of a vehicle (in their mind that would be the lease/warranty period) that the costs will be kept lower for an owner. Long term reliability is not in their best interest.

The hybrid motor is the starter correct. So it too can wear out. Just a more expensive starter to replace. As to transmissions, last 1 I had issues with was a 1987 Plymouth. I really don"t care if you love hybrids or ICE only. I had my reasons for not buying 1. #1 The only hybrid I found available MY 2024 was 2k towing, moonroof (never will have another 1), BAP (was trading in a BAP SIlverado that I hated cleaning the rims), higher price than I was willing to spend. #2 I don't like the auto start stop of the ICE I didn't want it as the normal operation. #3 My insurance, not yours or Geico or anybody else, my agent said in my area insurance was higher because of thefts of hybrids in the area and the repair cost when they are recovered. May not be true but I have been with the agent 25 years so no reason to lie to me. #4 I AM OLD AND DON'T LIKE CHANGE. My phone is 4.5 years old, we don't stream (have cable and digital rabbit ears), my laptop is 15 years old and runs windows 7 pro. I like what I know to work and don't like new technology. I know hybrids have been around awhile. I am not saying YOUR decision is wrong but every single thread on this forum hybrid owners will denigrate EB people for NOT buying hybrids. I personally hope more people buy hybrids the state need the $100/ year tax on them. BTW I pay an extra $11 per year for the EB because it is over 25 mpg combined.
Honestly we are just talking about things we both know already. No point in putting more into this. :ROFLMAO:
