This morning, when I was about to drop my daughter to school, the car locked on E-parking malfunction AGAIN, only three weeks from last "fix" in dealer ! I felt angry and frustrated, with my wife and my old daughter all have gone to work, I have to drive a half way fixed old car to manage to drive my daughter to school.

So, called the dealer morning, they want to be towed, and check again, because it needs to be lifted up on four wheel for towing, no way to put on neutral due to hybrid and E-parking things, on my drive way, it is not easy to maneuver on four wheels for towing, last time, it really took a while. I asked dealer if they know some "trick", I could disable the E-parking temporarily, then, I could drive to the dealer. They just don't know !

Anyway, last time, the "fix" is kind of charging the battery to full, then reset, then watched three days, it was good to go. I did measure the battery, it says 12.08 ~ 12.12v, which is low, shall be > 12.35V, right? Also, if it is due to battery, why Ford can not fix it ??

To be honest, other than this E-parking malfunction, it has been fun to drive the maverick, not under power, nimble, size is perfect, very impressive mileage.. Just this, really annoyed, it affects my whole working schedule and others !!

Do you turn on the parking brake every time you park?
I don't and haven't had any issues.

BTW an old-school tow truck should be able to haul it still- they have little wheeled dollies they put under rear locked wheels and lift the front end to tow.

Thank you, Not put on parking is an option, but not feel right, also sometimes, when it is not flat, not feel safe.

Yes, last time, they used dollies on four wheels to tow, just space is very tight, need a lot of small maneuvers.

Was it actually enabled - or just the warning about it?
Like if you shifted to Neutral would it coast?

Do you have the button pressed for auto-hold, do you use that?

MANUALLY RELEASING THE ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE

  1. Switch the ignition on.
  2. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  3. Push the switch down.
The red warning lamp turns off.

No, not on auto-hold,

Jumping start battery might work, next time I may try it.

Let's see what dealer say this time, just it is still because of low charged battery, the real question is how come battery lose charge so easy, and how come Ford make E-park is so sensitive to battery load, Hybrid start do not need 12V battery, just let car go, it will start to charge, unless the battery is seriously bad.

I checked the battery, it said 85% healthy, and SOC is 35% when car is off.

If their tester agrees - you are likely to get another battery, may have gotten a bad one.
IIRC it was 39% SOC or below that indicated a bad cell, and replacement battery was installed.

Or maybe it was that SOH at 39%.

But that is a terrible SOC% anyway, but the truck's system probably has it estimated higher than that.

Oh - why so sensitive?
I wonder if because the parking brake could be used as an emergency brake if needed, that due to it being electrical it must be operational by the 12V battery if rest the electrical system has gone haywire.
Compared to the old days of just crank that handle & cable up for the parking brake.

If 12v SOC = 35% then you have to jump start. Put maintainer on jump posts overnight or longer.

Well, yes, but this is brand new car, three weeks ago, they did the "fix", by then, I asked, if it was battery, why not change it, dealer was not happy with this question,

Also, I felt like, the battery is new too, why it lose its power so quick, either not charge right during driving, or something is draining it when it supposed not to,

I will see what dealer say tomorrow, and today, dealer could not give me "rental car", I don't know how to get to work tomorrow, really not happy.

While you have it in there I would ask about the fix for the AC draining the battery. See if they can perform that software update.

Thanks, I will try, but dealer seems not like to be "asked",,

Really hope, car just is unlucky, get a bad battery, not other complicated issues,,

If the Maverick is parked on a slope, it will automatically set the parking brake, whether you set it or not.

Dealer just update:

Your truck is currently not acting up, however there are some history fault codes that are present. We wrote engineering to determine the next step, and have yet to hear back, may hear back by tomorrow,,,, and still no rental ford car,,,

For the battery, you guys all sounds right. This morning, I checked my 17 years old fusion, battery is 12.38V, soh 83%, soc 73%, when car turned on, go up to 14.xxV right away.

Apparently for me, something wrong related this 12v flooded battery, but dealer don't say anything about battery, very strange 😕

Also, my further thought, given how new the battery is, (it is microcraft battery MAX), if it is not a bad battery, I think two cause could be, one, the battery is NOT charging during driving; second, kind of like "parasitic drain on car battery",

I remember in our forum, someone posted a video about "bad connector" under the fuse box from the 12V battery, maybe related to that.

You meant why not go for 25 model? Main reason is the "buttons", I really like physical buttons, I think Toyota is the one that trying to keep as much as physical buttons they can

Second is the price, a little cheaper, especially, power strain is still nearly identical.
