There are at least 5 similar threads just in this forum alone. It's a real issue for some shorter drivers. I really don't think this is a lemon law issue. However, I plan to push this along so it gets their attention. With all optimal seat adjustment made, she needs to choose between looking thru the steering wheel to see the road and just touching the gas pedal with her toe and all of this has to be done with her heel not on the floor. She takes a size 6.5 sneaker. I did find an extender that I ordered to try. (Hoolcar Anti-Slip Gas Pedal Extender) I hope it fits and solves the issue.
Ford was no help.
This is my fix extending the accelerator pedal.

Good day. I have been reviewing several of the threads here for the problem of smaller statured people having their foot slip off the bottom of the gas pedal due to its position and smallish size.

So, after reading a lot of comments and exploring the inter-web for possible answers, my favourite solution is the one I laughed at the first time I saw it on Amazon.

Please let me explain my thought process. There were many, many intricate bolt on pedal extender solutions with even more points with potential for failure. And with what it's job is (operating the accelerator pedal), failure is not an option.

My solution (K-I-S-S principle)so that my wife (5 ft...er...tall...) can comfortably and safely drive the truck without screwing it up for me as I am the primary driver was what I call an "organ pedal". Same idea as I saw on one of the other threads from an older vehicle.

I now have a plate under my weather tech floor mat, 2 holes drilled through them after siting the organ pedal appropriately, and bolting the organ pedal down with 2 nuts. One of the nuts also has a spring attached to assist with the organ pedals return to neutral position when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal.

It is important to position the "organ pedal" so that it fully engages the trucks accelerator pedal with no chance of sliding off to the left or right. Or, slipping off the bottom if you stomp it hard.

I thoroughly tested it before mounting it to the floor mat and there is no way for it to lose contact with the pedal or jam it I any way...I am kind of persnickity about these things (okay, about pretty much everyrhing), but this in particular, right now.

The only thing I would say to add is a couple drops of locktite on the threads and then tighten/secure the nuts so they won't possibly back off.

I couldn't lock wire them in place but did witness mark them for inspection in the future.

I attached 3 straps of velcro to the bottom of the metal plate (they came with the pkg) and they secured nicely to the carpet under the floor mat. I like this, as it adds another layer of security that the plate will not easily move.

The reason this came to light this week is that it finally warmed up here in Manitoba that my wife didn't have her winter (snow) boots on, and they are quite a bit larger than warm weather footwear.

Okay, I hope this helps anyone else that runs into the same issue. I will now try to add photos to help those that need a photo or two to figure out if this is a solution for them...or not. Cheers!

That pretty slick Andy. It looks like an easier solution than mine. It's crazy we have to do this on a new vehicle.

Thanks, I have seen the other options and this is very simple and inexpensive.

I would have liked moveable pedals like in my last F150, but this works great with no safety issues...but I will monitor as we go along.

I did copy this post to its own thread for ease of others searching for a possible answer to the same issue.

You have to realize that every vehicle is not going to fit everyone.
I wanted a Miata with a manual transmission. At 6' with a size 14E shoe it wasn't happening. My dad at 6'7" size 16 shoe couldn't fit into every car new or old. He use to say he would try on cars.
Good luck with your alterations.
Take care,

GB

Hello GB, and thank you for your input on your experience.

If you look at the photo with my wife's foot/shoe on it, you can see how it makes it so much easier to actuate the accelerator pedal.

Our size difference is such that this simple and inexpensive addition meets both of our needs...we can both sit comfortably, and drive our truck safely.

It is just a simple matter of installing the 2-bolt bottom-mounted gas pedal extender...easy-peasey when you have a good quality floor mat to incorporate into the installation.

In the old era of bench seats. I remember people having to put wood blocks on the pedals. Specially if the person has a long torso but short legs. You do what you got to do as long as it's safe.

side effects include Bella Lugosi dropping down with his cape hiding his face until he smirks and twirls his mustache . . .

🤪

I didn't have a problem with that at 6'2" and 12EW boots (or EE shoes).

But then, my legs are short for my height (6' legs, 6'4" torso, comes out to 6'2") in my 2006 Miata.

What did cause a problem was using the clutch wearing boots: I put a hole through the floor mat in the first week!

From then on, I drove in my socks . . .

Oh, and driving with the dust cover up was a problem, too. I had to slouch at a funny angle and put my head between the bars . . .

I drove to San Diego once (350 miles) and was in pain, as I couldn't fully extend my left leg, so my thigh wasn't supported. But with an added pillow for it to rest on the 500 to Reno wasn't a problem.

In its 70k miles as a daily driver, well under 1k, probably well under 500, were with the top up.
