Weirdly unexpected email from the dealer yesterday.

I got an email at work yesterday. They indicated that they had accidentally overcharged me and to stop at the dealership for a check.

I got there expecting some crazy upsell. Instead, they handed me a check for $1K, just a bit of small talk and I was on my way. It just seemed a bit odd and created a bit of cognitive dissonance regarding my opinions of car dealerships.

Just unexpected.

Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Just cash that check and put all the money on a prepaid credit card to keep in the truck and buy gas with. Just think of how many miles you can drive for free now.

This is the most likely thing that happened.

An audit found money they shouldn't have and tracked it to invoices. They can't take it legally without the invoice showing the actual amounts you owe. You signed paperwork somewhere with a different price and now they have money they have no receipt for. They can't fake invoices to cover it. So they have to give it back.

Was their any incentives offered that maybe they applied but charged you the price without them? And now have invoices with incentives deducted and now you've overpaid your account.

I should add the Dealership salesman put in the items needed for the rebate. I am 100% disabl. and getting use to rejection. I will be going back next week for matters and will check again. Thanks folks for inquiring. RLS

I went over the paperwork to find it. It was something I should have caught. They forgot, and so did I, to deduct for the deposit when I placed my order in November.

I am still a bit surprised that they didn't keep it.

Right, that's some serious BS! I've bought about a dozen new cars over the last 20 years and have always gotten a vet discount, mostly from foreign car manufacturers too...but NOT Ford? Super disappointed

I wish my dealer would refund some of the hostage like money they took from me. I will never buy another vehicle from them but have no quarrels with the service department.
