Loving having new tech etc. in the '24 mavericK vs my much loved '13 F150.

One minor but notable problem ive bumped into is the rr view camera on this '24 model, positioned just under the oval badge on the trunk, the central beam is about 6in. wide and sits 12 inches from, and smack dab in the middle of the cameras field of vision...unfort. it's pretty much useless when i've got the rack on.

I ride 2-3x a week, always have the rack on.

The Mav. has been out for a while, I can't be the only owner who found this out after the fact.

Anyone else dealing with this and or figure out a solution.?

I have an ARE shell as well,.. thinking i may need to sort out a way to mount a camera on top of the shell and tie it into the tail gate camera wiring some how...... ?
Ideas? suggestions? comments ?......I'm all ears.

..1 more thing... is there a way to pull up rear camera view on the screen when not in reverse??

Thank you.

Ed "Sled",
I still have some view with my bike rack mounted and my bike mounted on the rack. I kind of have to look through the bike. It helps to be proficient in mirror usage.
. Since you ride often.
Could you please to take a picture of your screen when your bike mounted on the rack?
Thank you.

In answer to your question about activating the view from your backup camera while moving forward.
Model years 2022-24 = No
Some trim models of the 2025 it is possible.

You definitely want to back up very carefully and use your mirrors.

My camera sees the road and complains about it when my tailgate is down hauling stuff. The fix is to use the supplied SMS solution.

Glen,

Thanks for posting.. yr pics look pretty much exactly like what im seeing with a bike on the rack..
I'm well versed in side mirror use, and while I've been called different, I'm a pretty careful driver esp. in a br. new company vehicle... It's' almost 3 weeks new for me, I work mostly from home. It has maybe 400 miles total and about 150 of that was before I got it. One of my best friends owns the Co. I work for the Co. purchased the truck in oregon for me to avoid cali sales tax, he drove it a bit and dialed it in with some nice accessories while waiting for the shell, before sending it down to me. My 1st brand new vehicle since 2002, I'm still pretty deliberate in it ;-).

Not a fan of the small 'Fiesta' side mirrors on the mav. but I think the biggest annoyance is the warning signal the system immediately starts squealing when the Rr. camera system or a rear proximity sensor 'sees' as an obstruction....

I'm impressed on how much info is availble here already on this vehicle. I was hoping by now some one else had also decided to figure this out... :fingerscrossed:
I figure maybe because everyone seemed to be dealing with Rr camera issues till recently, no one has bothered..
I'm thinking the only feasible way would be to relocate the camera itself, not really sure how " feasible " that is but if it can be done,.... i'll work it out eventually.
I'm also wondering if there may be anythign about the specs of this camera that may prevent it from actually being relocated to anywhere else properly.....somehow.... maybe i have to buy a ford replacement, or another one and then figure out how to get it to work with the ford system.....

Does anyone know if it is the camera itself that is "seeing" an obstruction and triggering the reverse warning signal, or could it be the 'parking sensors' ? I'm assuming it is something in the camera as the parking sensors in the bumper are all below the level of the rack esp when it is folded up...

2 be continued....maybe ;-)

There are 2 types of sensors in the back. The small "button" like ones you can see, and the radar ones mounted under the tail lights and behind the bumper shell.

Ed,
Ok, so you can see through the bikes you aren't totally blind like you would be with one of those tailgate covers.
I've had bike racks on previous vehicles including my Toyota Yaris, Buick Encore and my Ford sport Trac. The Encore was the only one that had a backup camera. The rest I had to use my mirrors and I did just find that way.
Relax and Don't overthink it.
Remember we didn't always have cameras.
Good luck,

GB

There are aftermarket cameras that are mounted on your license plate frame with a rear view mirror that shows the view behind available as well.

The SMS is the Maverick's Supplemental Mirror System, which is the included tri-mirror vehicle safety package.

Using the latest in reflective and transparent glass technologies and used in combination with the driver's Organic Ocular Sensors, they can replace the lost functionality of the blocked camera.

I may need to get my organic ocular sensors checked.

Thanks, im familiar, but with the plate down at bumper level its just about at the level of the racks main beams and offset to the right so not optimal
I'm just wondetring if anyone else has developed an original work around as none of the obvious aftermarket options look to be helpful, im assuming if there is anythign to be done, this will be some type of custom modification I will need to work out...should i choose to accept.

I have my rack on and haul bikes often. It does get pretty annoying not being able to use the camera fully. I also find the blind spot sensor in my mirror going off randomly. It only does it when I have a bike on the rack.

If anyone finds a camera that can integrate with the factory radio I would definitely try it.

On my bike rack a camera mounted right where the reflector would work.

The OEM backup cam isn't easy to mount -- it gets sandwiched between 2 plastic pieces. But the tailgate emblem assembly, which comes with the camera installed, can be surface mounted using two threaded studs.

Ford Maverick Rear View Camera and Bike Racks..... 1744819354833-4l

What if you got a used tailgate emblem (NZ6Z16605A) like this one currently on eBay for ~$60?

Then modify an OEM tailgate harness (NZ6Z14A412C) and extend the camera connector to the length you need. The harness plugs in under the bed, between the bumper and the spare tire. Swap to the modified harness when you haul the bike and swap back when you're done.

It's not the prettiest solution, and I'll concede it's much more work than that innovative SMS mentioned earlier in the thread.

I just wish the Blue Oval on the tailgate had a hinge at the top so I could get a usable image when the tailgate is down. They could put preset detents in it so the view would be about right at all 3 tailgate positions. Would it really be all THAT hard?
