This would be considered a partial overlap type crash, (NHTSA document) . The NHTSA added these types of crashes to their testing, and when they did manufactures got dismal ratings. Thankfully manufactures have improved in this area since the late 1990's.I would refer to it as a glancing blow.
A study by O’Neill (1994) showed that 12% of all
frontal impacts with moderate or severe injuries were
impacts with an overlap less than 33%. The study also
showed that frontal collisions with an overlap less than
33%, produce moderate or severe injuries in 60% and
fatalities in 10% of those impacts. It is also shown that
14% of all fatal frontal two-car collisions had an overlap
below 33% (O’Neill, 1994).
