I get a call from my Nigerian buddy every now and then telling me the warranty on my refrigerator has expired and offers me the one time opportunity to get another. Next time he calls I'll ask him about car warranties!

Go thru Ford, not cheap but best coverage and lots of options.

So a question - not wanting to get into a debate on the financial merits of getting an extended warranty or not, as that's a different discussion. But I'm wondering - if a person has an extended warranty (from Ford, not a 3rd party), are they more likely to take their vehicle in for warranty service when trouble starts, compared to someone who doesn't have a warranty, and lets the issue manifest itself until potentially more damage or costs are accrued because the issue wasn't dealt with early on, because they didn't want to spend the out-of-pocket cost for the full repair?

I have never purchased an extended warranty for any of my multiple previous new vehicle purchases, and with one exception (a Chrysler T&C that kept having front suspension and power steering issues), not getting a warranty was a good financial decision. But, thinking that if my Maverick shows itself to be a worthy road trip car, that getting an extended warranty would be good, if for no other reason that a peace of mind that for the next 10 years, the most I'd have to pay for any (non wear/tear) is my deductible. It's a lot easier to fit $100 in the budget every once in a while, compared to what could be an expensive repair bill that is unbudgeted. It's the unknown that's hard to plan for. Kind of like house insurance - you hope to never have to use it, but when you do, you're glad you're only on the hook for the deductible.

Probably works like Medicaid. Get a sniffle, make an appointment. Feel better by appointment time and just don't show up. Don't try this if you have your own insurance as you can be charged a no-show fee.

I understand Granger Ford sells them cheaper than anybody. I haven't bought one yet but a lot of people have stated saving $1000.00 through them. Good luck.

I bought our Ford Platinum extended warranty on our 2015 Ford Flex Limited from Granger. It was $1800 or so. The Flex had 31k miiles.

We had a weird thrumming noise at freeway speeds. Took it in and it did take a while for them to figure it out. They replaced the front CV shafts/joints, changed the PTU and finally figured it was the front hubs which they replaced.

All of that cost me $132 out of pocket. It was easily over 8k worth of work. The Flex is a complex car and has a history of some failures like the PTU. I have be religious on changing the fluid in the PTU every 30k miles but you never know.

It now has 85k miles on it and I just dropped it off for a Service Advance Trac warning light. Probably the brake sensors but it is covered for another 18 months and 11k miles.

Worth every penny I spent of course.
