Ok so I bought my maverick spring of 24.
As some know I drive a ton. So wasn’t long and I did my first transmission fluid change.
I ordered what was on the amsoil recommended sheet. Lv fluid.
Today I see they have updated to ulv fluid.
Now some would panic and think oh boy. Know I have ordered the correct fluid for the truck now and will use it going forward. But I have got about 50k miles on this lv fluid and have seen zero negative signs.

I tow much more than the recommended 4 k a lot and very long hauls. So maybe the fluid is better for my use.
Now I know several times this has happened to me over the years.
not only has amsoil but even ford has changed what they recommend for a brand new vehicle at one point to something new.

I wouldn't worry about it. The basic difference between the fluids is viscosity. If the LV fluid was going to cause an issue, it would have already with 50K miles on it. Just change it to ULV and move on. You're much better off than 95% of the population who never change their transmission fluid or wait until the ridiculous 150K change recommendation.

Yes and per spec sheet it looks like it’s only different at higher temps.
I have actually thought about just rolling with it the way it is. If it get way out of spec you notice shift differences. If anything mine had been better or spot on.

Keep in mind it was a recommended fluid until they updated a new product.

Yeah @Snox801, it might not hurt to start some communication about this with Amsoil, for the record. Maybe just ask them if they think the LV fluid will have any long term affects, and explain that you ran the LV for 50K miles on their recommendation.

I was actually able to talk to them this morning. Seems it’s the typical case of it works just fine with no ill effects. They just created a product that is ulv to meet the higher demands of fuel consumption.

Yeah, I figured the entire reason Ford recently switched to ULV (over LV) was for fuel consumption reasons only. Which of course makes me wonder if LV is actually a better choice if you favor long-term durability over MPGs.

I was thinking the same thing when I got to your post.
The OP said, he did a lot of heavy towing.
All in all, I think he's better sticking with the Amsoil LV fluid. 👍

It's something I would consider if I was pushing the limits of tow capacity, especially if I didn't have the extra cooling capacity of the 4K package.

So is this a first time we all agree? Lol
It’s logical to think that it may indeed be better for long term. The transmission is very similar and used in many other vehicles in different variants. I would bet ford didn’t decide to completely redo the internals and valves for the 8 speed over the 6speed in the edge and escape.
My guess is nothing changed but the fluid. And maybe the adaptive learning handles the rest.
But now I’m back and forth whether to keep on running the lv or swap and go to the ulv.

Actually shocked o don’t get a bunch of posts about out of spec fluids and how I ruined my truck. Lol
To be fair it’s not the fluid that’s doing damage it me and the way I treat this thing.

Agreed, I think the only benefit to the ULV is cold weather efficiency. In your case, I would not feel bad about having LV in there. Then at your next D&R, you can decide what to use. I think you could make a case for either, and I don't think you would have any problems with one over the other, as far as transmission related failures. Just my $.02. 🤠

I change all driveline fluids (Engine, trans, ptu,ra) once a year. I drive about 5000 miles per year. Do it at home for under $200.

I agree with you anyway. The typical naysayers must have the day off or something...

I would be tempted to continue using the LV for sure. Let us know how that works for you in the long run, and thanks for the being the guinea pig. LOL

I think that’s gonna be my plan.
It shifts so good. I like being the tester. I get to drive enough that I’m a good person to do it.
Plus I haul a lot in the summer heat. So it probably is a better move. My bigger tires already kill my mpg.
