We got an XLT Lux 4K 10/26, (someone's unwanted order). Drove 3 1/2 hours one way to get it, had the worst dealer experience in Beatrice, NE. Took it on its first long haul yesterday and it was great! Great mpg, great ride, easy in the NE/WY wind. Then it went deer hunting on the way home. Neither it or the little buck survived sadly. I, however, am fine. For a little truck it did an amazing job keeping me safe after hitting dead on. Beyond airbag burn and bruises, I'm fine. There were airbags everywhere, the emergency response features were solid, it was mashed but had enough in it to get me off the interstate (it was pitch black, windy as crap, and semis were out in full force.) It had a little less than 1300 miles on it, we will buy another.

I'm surprised that it's totaled. I'm guessing that someone will buy it from the insurance company, fix it up, and sell it with a rebuilt title. Unless, of course, there's a whole bunch of damage that I can't see from the photos (which is very possible, since the photos don't show that much).

Modern vehicles are a lot easier to total than those of the past. All the airbags that go off and keep us amazingly safe also create a lot of damage to the cabin where they are stored and they have to be replaced and the covering trim redone. The strike looks like it got a few different zones on the front end, so that probably added to the cost too. insurance companies seem like they don't want to deal with the complexity of complicated repairs if it's going to be close and just choose to pay out and move on.

That is just terrible news. My heart hurts. You must be thinking what terrible luck to have struck the deer in your brand new truck. So glad you are okay though. Hope the insurance process is quick and painless and that you're back on the road in a new Maverick soon!

Hope that bought me enough credit because while reading the comments about folks debating whether or not it's totaled, my mind wandered to Asgard.

Korg says the foundation still looks strong so perhaps it can be rebuilt!

Too soon?

I had heard if the air bags are deployed the insurance will total the vehicle. I guess it is a liability issue, but man seems will a little work the truck can be up and running.

glad to hear you are okay…..

No....It is harder to total. Airbags are no longer an auto total. Body shop buddy near me says it now has to hit over 60 percent of vehicle value to total and sometimes more. He did that while showing me a f350 dually with almost 50k in damage that the insurance company WOULD NOT TOTAL
