Sanded and test fitted the LEDs and frosted lens covers. Layed down the adhesion promotor, white next, then black details....

Going to look similar to these only I'm also painting the XLT black.

Also going to use this custom made harness to connect the LEDs to the turn signals.

Looks really nice Todd I ordered the lense covers from GadCAD 3D so I’m waiting on them and have been follow your progress. Thank you for providing the wiring adapter info I think I missed the link for the actual LED fixtures but will see if I can go back and find them. I hope you will provide some pics and info on the actual wiring when you get too that point - I appreciate all your updates

@Dave O I'm using these small bolt style LEDs with a fisheye style lens from super bright LEDs.com they were $3 a piece and their locally here in St Louis. I had to drill a 7/16 hole to fit them through the fender side vent.

Just one of those LEDs are brighter than all six on the side of the mabbitt blinker side vents.

Next installment: I started my assembly today and managed to get three pix. I would have taken more but it's difficult to take pix and solder at the same time.

My plug n play setup came w/ the wires for the side markers labeled; by hand w/ a Sharpie, but that's ok w/ me. I had, on hand three lengths of wire on hand that could be cut in half for this project. Black, white, and blue is what I had so black, white, and blue is what I used. (If I did this again I'd use black, white, and red to match the LEDs) Most of it'll be covered anyway and I'll color code the ends so the wire color isn't terribly important. To make it more confusing the Ground wire out of the plugs is black but the Ground for the LEDs is white. I decided to do the wire color switch and hide it under the wire wrap. When doing this for yourself you can solder or crinp or even crimp and solder. I like to solder and then cover w/ heat shrink tubing as shown below.

Once the wire extensions were soldered and heat shrink covered I slid them into the wire loom stuff. It's pretty much like what they use to call a Chinese Finger Puzzle; push it together to open it up and then slide the wires in until it's all covered. When you cut a length of the wrap you need to seal then ends a bit w/ heat, otherwise the stuff WILL unravel. I use a lighter. Like I said above, there's a bit of a learning curve to the stuff but it's not rocket science, play around w/ it a little and you'll figure it out. I slide the end of the loom material into a bit of heat shrink tubing to secure the ends. You can just use a small zip tie to do this as well. If you look close you'll see that for this one I used both; zip tie first then heat shrink over both.

The loom at the other end of the wires was also secured w/ heat shrink and then I crimped on the bayonet connectors and used black, white, and red heat shrink to make it clear how to connect the LEDs. Of course you have to slide the heat shrink tubing over the wires before you crimp on the connectors and I solder the end of bare wire that's to be crimped into the connector; i just think you get a better, more secure, crimped connection. One done and ready to install. I'll do up the second one and then get to preparing the side "vent" thing for the LED and lens.

Well... I'm a bonehead.

I took my completed little harness out to test today. The turn signal works perfectly. No marker light. I start looking around a bit closer, AS I SHOULD HAVE DONE BEFORE, and discover the three connector plug for the turn signal only has two wires in it so the third wire for the marker light has to be routed to another place for its feed. Well duh, I think I remember reading on here there's a difference in headlights between the Lariat and XL/XLT models, maybe that's where the difference lies. That's ok, I can adapt and will backtrack a little bit with my previous work and put in a longer wire that'll (eventually) be connected to the power for the little marker light that's low on the front fender. Or somewhere else if I can find one more convenient.

That's fustrating. I see there's no mention of it on the sale page (XL/T or Lariat) for the harness, and I assume there was no mention in the instructions?

Instructions? No instructions come with them, only the wires labled in Sharpie. I'm writing to them right now to let them know, but I'm just going to make it work. Stay turned and I'll correct this embarrassing confusion.

Cory, I used the side marker on my XLT for the tap and it worked fine. You can remove that marker two different ways, just depends on what you prefer. I put blue tape around the edge of the fender next to light, right up against it to prevent marking up the fender. Used about 3 layers there. Used a plastic pry tool set I got at Harbor Freight years ago. They are actually panel pry tools for interior doors and such. I found that prying straight out did not work, rather "push" the light assembly towards the front (I think it was the front, old age here) as the one side of the light has a tab that will compress just a small bit, then pull that side out. Hope someone else chimes in here, you may have to push it towards the rear, the pull out.

Great information, much appreciated! All those years in the Air Force they always told us to trust our First Sergeant! I've finally got some halfway decent weather so I can be outside messing w/ getting things right. I wrote to Custom Auto Works Store to see what they have to say about it.

So let me see if I got this right. You're saying the parking light wire coming off the custom harness adapter does not provide power for a side marker light correct?
