Sure, put it on the tonneau or front seats.
id rather just unload my hot tent, stove, and cot - leave the rest of the gear in place in the bed, and camp much more comfortably in my gear.

Look Dad had a 2001 avalanche (loved that truck!) with the midgate and I can count on my severed limb how many times we used it….

You want to keep hands and feet away from the midgate before slamming it shut.

I suppose the camping option could be useful but you’re also taking everything out of your bed before doing it.
not necessarily, people use platforms, sleep on top of those, store some gear underneath (and the back seat).

I would love if this was offered. I really doubt it will.

Not sure where they'd move all the stuff that's mounted behind the rear seat back. It's possible some of it could be moved under the seat, but you'd likely lose that storage space entirely to do it for a lariat level trim. The seat backs would need hardened and bolstered to support heavy items, so they'd likely be thicker or have to have integrated supports that brace it when folded down.

You’re gonna store stuff under the backseat? Where’s the midgate folding?

You think people are complaining that "the Maverick is no longer a $20k truck" now? Add this $5k feature and watch heads explode. 🤣

Like others, I think this is cool, but I wouldn't necessarily want it.

The short bed is doable but this would be fantastic. Yeah, I know, pricy and problematic with the unibody.
Very cool.id be interested in this option, however, I use my truck as it's intended and my bed is filthy. Would need a thoural cleaning for some uses.

Looks really cool, but not for me. Those seats aren't going to be as comfortable to sit in when they're designed to be extra thin to fold flat, there will be risk of water leaks and extra noise from all the parts that separate the cab from the bed, it's going to cost a fortune, and I'd probably use it once or twice at most.

I got a small truck because all I need is a small truck. I might have settled for a sedan if Ford still made the Taurus, but I like my Maverick.

True that they put tons of stuff behind seat... If they got rid of That Itty bitty electric window on lariat for this big manual one that might help (either way that Itty bitty needs to be bigger)

Nice article and that Baja was ahead of its time.... I would love to see the simple version of this as an option as the small bed is the big downside of the small truck. The other thing the Baja had that is lacking on the maverick is the roof racks.. I am probably going to add Elevate bed racks, but for 12' lumber you will need some supports on the roof - probably a good idea for Kayacks, etc too- I hate the idea of bolting on crossbar to the roof rain gutters but probably the only option on maverick. Lastly if the don't do the midgate they should at least make the whole rear window go down like Tacoma or even this chevy video, that tinker toy size rear window option might allow what, maybe a couple 2x4's to pass through - very disappointing.

Why you passing 2x4s through the window?

I'm with you, GmanGM. I used the fold-flat rear seats and the pass-through to the bed all the time in my 2006 Baja. It was super simple, gave me a lot of options for how I used the spaces and never leaked. If my Baja had all the up-to-date safety features and was a hybrid, I'd still be driving it.

That said, my Maverick is a great vehicle and I'm very happy with it.
