We've had some unusual Midwest weather by me, but I finally got the chance to test out the performance in some snowy weather last night. It wasn't particularly heavy snowfall, but the roads weren't fully cleaned yet so that was the real scenario I wanted to see how we did in. It ended up performing how I'd expect: decent traction until you're giving it too much pedal, still needs some attention to stopping because it's still a snow-covered road, etc.
The one thing I wasn't super expecting is even after the truck had plenty of time to warm up, the wipers just weren't performing. There was streaking. There was frozen, unwiped sections in the top left of the drivers side. In general, it was pretty sub-par performance.
So this is ultimately my question, which could inform a solution: What's causing the sub-par performance? I have a few ideas?
1. The stocks wipers themselves are trash - This could be the problem. I'm sure the wipers they put on there aren't any high performance special version. Could simply upgrading these be the easy solution?
2. The wiper design itself is bad - Sometimes they just get it wrong. I don't see any specific reason that the design is bad, but maybe there's just something simple like too much wind up in that corner or something like that. That's obviously not a solution we can address, but maybe there are ways to mitigate it?
3. Maybe it was just the weather - I didn't think the snow was particularly bad, and I had the defrost on high to see if I could mitigate the buildup, but it didn't seem like it could. I was hoping the heat would defrost it and the wipers would eventually knock it off. No dice.
Anyone have any thoughts? It's obviously only one experience but it is something that I almost immediately noticed.
