eh, it's the bags themselves and the location - there's a good amount of labor to remove and replace the dashboard if that one went off - I know someone with a 3 day old jeep that got t-boned - $11K in damage, a few thousand of that due to 3 airbags going off, ins co fixed it (Jeep was $38K)
Light tap from side no airbags deployed, also no frame distortion. Total repair $12,722.xx+ rent car for 5 weeks+$2,141.00 diminished value
Initial estimate was about $5,350.00

I just got my 24 back today. Hit a deer on December 7, 2024 (a day that will live infamy). It was drivable, though with one headlight out. Fender, hood, bumper cover, door skin, core support and a lot of smaller odds and ends.

Repair was $12,000. I was so fortunate - I changed my insurance several months ago after a friend had a break-in on her car that required more than window replacement. I got the rental car coverage added, $40 a day for 30 days. So glad I did - this was in the shop for 21 days.

Anyway, a lot of sheet metal damage to mine, and looks like yours also. My front subframe structure was untouched, no air bags. If your structure is sound, you're going to be Ok. Well, your Mav is anyway.
I forget what it cost but I think $2.75/year on policy to increase rental car from $40 to $50/day which is max available at my insurance co.

Wow. These first estimates are way off aren’t they? I keep reading about insurance companies using scrap value to help determine a total. Anyone know anything about that?

When I picked up my truck I asked body shop mgr if he had been paid yet. His reply "I have received the preliminary estimate" payment. The guys insurance that you made a claim against is on the good list so I am releasing the truck to you before receiving the payments for supplement 2 and 3 as they will come shortly. (Apparently he can charge "storage fee $150/day" waiting for payment. So I thanked him for the early release!
As far as total considerations I believe it's related to the "paperwork" and which account they take $$$ out of to pay. Most likely to satisfy how much $$$ reserves are necessary to satisfy state INS regs. Example of stupidity = my son had a damaged Volkswagen that INS Co paid $about $10-12k to repair and then another $2k when it wouldn't start and sent it to Volkswagen and they said it needed at least $5k wiring harness. Then ins co totaled it and wrote him a check for $19k. All this took about 3 months. All this on a used car he paid $16k for.
Oh. In answer to scrap value question. They basically use current value for original vin number list price depreciated for milage and age which is nowhere near what MSRP was 2 or more years ago. It will appear to be based on scrap which is what avg car price is in 5 years.

There is no way the insurance company will fork over almost $28,000 to fix that. It will go to Copart auction and you'll get a payout. Get ready to find another Maverick or place an order if you have that flexibility.

I'm thinking they will total it, but i guess it depends on what the acv and scrap value is. I hope you're right though.
