Right now the coverage seems wise, but what if I sell, or trade it early? Any rebate through Ford? Is it transferable to a 2nd owner??
You can get a prorated refund of unused amount. You can also wait to buy all the way up to 36 months of your ownership.

Maverick is suppose to be built this week and I will be buying an extended warranty from Flood Ford, but not too sure which I should pick to be honest. I live in Michigan and drive about 12k miles per year, any insight would be greatly appreciate to helping me pick the best plan.
I purchased a Ford Premium extended warranty. 10 years, 48,000 miles, $50 deductible. The Mav is a third vehicle for us and I'm retired so I will most likely drive 3 to 4k a year. Cost was $1155. If I had bought an Ecoboost I probably would not have purchased the extended warranty. I just feel more comfortable having the warranty with the hybrid. I feel confident with the Mav hybrid since the Escapes and Fusions have a good reliability record. $1155 seems reasonable to me for piece of mind. The plan includes the light package.

Hmmm, yes we did Ally with the major guard package; 100K miles/10 year for $2,000 with a $100 deductible.

Still unsure if it was a sweet deal but we wanted something.

My first encounter with the value of these was with an 02' Audi S4, the very sweet twin turbo V6.

Trans went out at 49K and radiator about the same, $20K cost and I paid zero.

However none for a Honda Civic at 35K, some computer went out having to do with ABS/ suspension/TPS/etc... $3,500 total. Nissan Cube at 90K, CVT died, $5K total.

All in all the $2,000 seemed like a pretty good deal seeing that cars these days are mostly rolling software platforms.

Still... wishing that I had read this thread previous to buying our now beloved Tremor as perhaps we would have went with Granger?

Ah the 2.7tt... I spent a lot of time working on those (and the associated vehicles) when I was a mechanic at a German indy shop. Everything was freaking EXPENSIVE and a pain in the ass to work on, but at least the book hours paid well (and I could meet them my first time through). I felt a little bad for some of the customers, especially the Allroad customers that had NO idea their cars had such an expensive engine/transmission/suspension lol.

Oh yes, this was why I sold mine soon after getting married and purchased an Altima :)

The S4 was such a niche car; Nogaro Blue with the blue suede/alcantara interior. Plus lowered with BBS and RS4 front valance that when I sold it, I made 25% over street price.

The poor guy called me 3 months later with some off issues that I could not advise on. Man Audi's are or were at least a money pit.

Thats just it.. even though you're kinda betting against your car.. the peace of mind you get knowing if something does go wrong you're out the deductible and thats it is great.

Until they are not ;)
Cherry Picking a few who benefit does not compensate for those who bought them and either never used them or had issues with payouts or not qualifying for what they thought was covered.

Overall they are a waste of money.

Better to put the cost of them aside and earn 4% on that money. Tap that fund if needed.

In a perfect world you may be right but its seldom perfect.. in your scenario you set aside a small amount each month..Ok you have been at it a few months or you even say screw it and set aside 3K what the warranty woulda cost... and then 7 months in your CVT goes on your subaru and it costs more than you set aside where are you getting the $$.. it works when it works like you'd want but if you need it you will be happy you had it..

Im the prime example so far I added in a 10year 100K on my subaru// never used it (yet) so im out so far whatever that cost(im only 1/2 way through it though.) The car before this I only used about $500 of it(replaced the bluetooth module) thats it really stuff did happen early on covered by manufacturer warranty..

BUT the car before that despite taking all the cautions was a total POS Transmission, coil packs spark plugs, heated seats all went out had we set aside the $$ it would have been gone on the transmission and everything else that horrid car had go wrong would have cost up a bit over $1600 by the time we got rid of it.. we didnt have it it we were just starting out wifes first car she didnt pay less than $3K for.. So for many people youre correct for the ones that have major stuff go.. not so much..I mean sure if I could set aside 10-12K for repairs id feel good.. most cant.

It's a calculated risk/reward decision. You're gambling the vehicle repair costs over the life of the warranty will exceed the cost. I've never purchased an extended warranty before but plan on getting the premiercare 10 yr / 100K / $0 deductible warranty with the lighting extra from Granger when I pick up my Lariat in March (I hope). Too much tech to fail and I plan on keeping the truck at least 10 years if not longer and we will probably average less than 10K a year. The truck will be fully loaded, and near as I can tell, the price for the extended warranty is the same regardless of vehicle trim.. so I think it offers more value for the Lariats and other maxxed-out Mavs.

I'm spending a little more for the 0 deductible vs the $50 or $100 as I think I'll be more motivated to bring the truck in for minor issues if there's no costs, and therefore get more out of the warranty over the next 10 years. With a higher deductible I think I'd tend to let little things ride... The $70 lighting rider is a no-brainer considering the cost of replacing the LED headlights and taillights.

I also plan on putting the purchase of extended warranty warranty on my (just got it) FordPass CC. This will help get me the $6K annual I need to qualify for the $200 points from the CCand some bonus points (I pay my CC every month so don't worry about the interest rates. Since there's no annual fee on the FordPass visa it's easy money).

>Then you could say the same for having life insurance.
>And say the same for full coverage on a vehicle you own.
>And you can say the same for homeowners insurance
>And you can say the same for keeping a gun in the house.

It’s a personal choice. And the odds are in our favor tat we will NOT need to use any of the above.

But many still choose to protect ourselves from when we DON’T beat the odds.

agree 100% some people have the financial wherewithal to be able to absorb say a Engine ot Transmission or differential, touch screen, computers going out and just say.. well at least I didnt waste $$ on a extended warranty.. and just pay 3-10K and call it good...

others(like a bigger MAJORITY ) cant actually afford to do that and would like the peace of mind that comes with knowing if anything BIG comes up its covered no out of pocket other than the initial warranty buy cost will happen.

Some were like me when I was younger id get a vehicle that still had warranty left on it(1-3 years old) drive it till the warranty was out flip it for another with warranty still left.. I never got a extended warranty then.. never had a vehicle more than 1-3 years old..so the manufactures warranty never ran out..

Then I got older cars while I still like them stopped meaning as much to me as far as needing to have a certain car for a "image" type thing// I started getting what worked for me more than I did getting what i really wanted... I wanted a Dodge or Jeep SRT 4wheel drive I got a 2020 Subaru Forester lol... that kind of stuff.. and I decided I wanted to keep it quite a bit longer so we started getting them a bit nicer(more loaded) still 1-2 years old but were intent to keep them 5-8 years or more so got extended warranties.. too much BS costing a LOT of $$ (especially electronics and computers and touch screens ) and didnt want to be 6 years in and have something thats $$$$$ happen with no coverage..

This said we paid off the 2020 forester in full in 2021 we got the wife's 2021 Atlas in 22 paid it off in full in 24..so we are at no car payments no house payment..also happy to have spent the $$ on a warranty as you said just like life insurance, car insurance(full coverage), health insurance.. just for the peace of mind of knowing since we keep our vehicles well maintained that... if something goes wrong we are out a lot less than if we ignored it and just set aside a bit of $$ instead ;)

Can I ask how much that cost? I paid $1150 for Ford ESP, 8 years, 48000 miles, $50 deductible. I only drive about 5k a year.
