Prefer to keep it simple.

Took my 2025, xlt, hybrid AWD in hard packed snow, did two attempts, one with traction control off, and one with it on

Traction control off... pushed throttle to floor, vehicle kind of crabbed walked to right, then got traction and went straight.

Traction control on... pushed throttle to floor, tires broke loose for a moment, then traction control took over, and I went in straight line.

Im sure a set of true winter tires would have been a game changer. Just nice to know the control and traction is there

Slippery mode is even better. Modulates the throttle, among other things. Used it today going up my icy mountain driveway.

You, know, those options slipped my mind ( no pun intended) . I'm coming off a 18 year old minivan, and never had these electronic options...

It's time you learned grasshopper. Only kidding I'm new to having different options which changes engine and or transmission gearing (shift points) Definitely different, hopefully it gets better as we go. At least remembering we have options is the first thing.

Yup .talked to older gentleman who couldn't get up his icy hill into his garage with hybrid .left truck parked on road. Thinking of selling after one month of ownership due to perceived poor performance. Was not aware vehicle had different settings. Obviously sales rep did a poor job of orientation. I showed him buttons and gave brief orientation.

Is this seriously how people drive? I generally thought idiotic behavior like this was relegated to the few idiots I see in the walmart parking lot each time it snows, but maybe not.

So, after you ”showed him buttons and gave brief orientation”, how’d he do?

In the snow I have always found that if you drive like Miss Daisy was in the back seat you have the best odds of getting to and from your destination much better.
I remember reading the advice of a Texas weatherman:
"Drive in the snow like your 90-year old grandmother is with you, holding a hot casserole in her lap with no lid on it."

problem is you're going to get hit by another texan going 100mph on highway. they dont slow down. when I lived there, and there was any ice at all, everyone flew off the roads like little pingpong getting whacked around off each other.

so if you pull over, or successfully stop in traffic, and someone hits you, and you hit others, in a 30 car Texas pile up.

are you now 50/50/use own insurance? you stopped, but then got rear ended by 20 others. thats unfair.

I remember "fondly" one business trip to Dallas in the winter. The roads were quite icy, and me being the driver from the land of snow and ice (upstate NY) was taking it easy, leaving lots of room, etc. Meanwhile, the north Dallas drivers were flying along like it was a hot summer day. Yes, there were plenty of them off the road, in the center median, or had hit a guard rail.

OTOH, sometimes when I go to SW PA, they are going crazy because of the poor road conditions and "snow on the roads". To someone from upstate NY, it is a dusting.

He was a stranger that came up to me in parking lot and saw my truck. Never saw him again. Also I have had two people come up to me in parking lot and want to buy truck. I didn't sell it.

Well, if everyone else is doing it, might as well join them.
