Worked for 12 hours + 3 hours on the road, and as a result, I passed out for a while. When I woke up, I had no idea how long I had been driving like that. I didn't wake up to any noises—I woke up on my own. The Maverick was still holding the line on the freeway. I took a picture of what was on the screen.

Turns out the driver sleep-safety feature isn't actually implemented. You just get a screen that says, "You're asleep." Why even have this function if it doesn't emit any alerts and just quietly displays a message? There's no siren, music doesn't turn off, car doesn't stop, emergency lights don't come on - just gurgling something.. I was simply notified that I was asleep. The Lane-Keeping System saved me.

I opened up the ford and volkswagen video clips. An 11 year old video clip where Ford presents their system as a message - “take a coffee break”.

The 7 year old video is the same - just as simple a message with a cup of coffee.

I was shocked Ford doesn't have the technology to do anything but put the message on the screen?

Look at how Volkswagen solved this problem.

I'm going to suggest that Ford install a set of ⚡TASER ⚡PROBES underneath the fabric in the seat bottom and the seat back to solve that problem.
That'll wake you up. 😳

I understand you don't have any open recalls, but reporting it would let them know of a possible issue, they can investigate and get one created if needed.

I live in Canada, here dealers work more like a vase on a beauty table. I have had the seat sensor issue 4 times and then another dealer said there are no calls in the database for the sensor issue. When I asked how the sleep driver system works - I embarrassed them out of ignorance. I am very tired then ford. This is my worst experience among the 6 brands of cars I have bought.

I'd understand if this was 2000, but it's 2025. They haven't thought of it yet...

Once my friend had a 1983 carburetted PASSAT, it had a mechanical valve that pumped fuel from the camshaft without electronics. While driving, the diaphragm on the pump ruptured and started pumping petrol and started flooding the engine. The car then started screaming so much you would have thought it was a nuclear explosion warning and needed to go to a shelter 100 feet underground. 1983! And we're in 2025 talking about jolts in the back.

Damn bro, glad you're ok.
Thank you!
When I bought the car, I wanted to protect myself from this as it had happened before when I was driving a thousand kilometres a day in Europe. But I realise that in Ford it is a warning or alert system, not an assistance system.

I’m sorry guys but why is Ford responsible for a driver falling asleep? You are blaming the wrong entity.
The OP admitted blame and then blames the vehicle for keeping him on the road. In the old days he goes off the road and dies a horrible death.
Good grief. What about personal responsibility?

Sorry to be Debbie downer but Come on!

Almost like another thread it's the vehicles fault, not mine for falling asleep while driving. Just glad you are okay but hope you know how lucky you are, to be here, posting.

The good thing out of this, besides surviving and no accidents. Is that no one can tell you the Maverick's ride is rough. Well they may say it and post it, but we know better.

All kidding aside, you are truly blessed, could be a whole different post/story.

To me, it sounds like the Maverick saved the OP's life with the lane keeping feature. Without this, the OP may have died in this situation. I am the glad no accident happened!

While I agree with your point 100% on personal responsibility, my thinking after reading the initial report description, assuming that was all the facts, was the system did not perform all what it was suppose to do:

RE:
"LANE CENTERING ALERTS
You must keep your hands on the steering
wheel at all times.
When the system is active and detects no
steering activity for a period of time, the
system alerts you to put your hands on the
steering wheel. If you do not react to the
warnings the system cancels and slows
your vehicle down to idle speeds while

maintaining steering control.
The system also alerts you if your vehicle
crosses lane markings without detected
steering activity.
Note: The system may detect a light grip
or touch on the steering wheel as hands-off
driving."

Since the assumption is the vehicle did not perform as advertised (based on what we know at this time), my previous response was to report it to the https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?gclsr...MI4Pfxi-r8igMV_CvUAR3AEzfhEAAYASAAEgJZQPD_BwE
to maybe have them investigate if there is a bug in the system preventing the slowing down to idle speeds while maintaining steering control. Maybe there is a bug in the software that the gov't can verify and make ford to a fix/recall to have it work as advertised in the users manual.

Not amount of safety in the car will save everyone. As someone who works very long manual labor 14-16 hour days. Then drives a lot. Very normal for me to work 8 hours in CO and drive 21 hours home.

14 hour days and 12-14 home from Nc.
You need to know yourself and when to stop.
My lane keep has a slight vibe in the wheel. It won’t wake you when you are that tired. Not to mention this system has a chance of causing issue. I can’t stand something I’m not ready for shaking the wheel or alerts going off. Very dangerous in itself.
