iSeeCars analyzed over 1.9 million new cars sold between July 1 and September 7, 2022, and compared their list price to their MSRP. The average difference was expressed as a percentage from MSRP and used to rank the vehicle models. Low-volume models and heavy-duty vehicles were excluded from further analysis.

The Ford Maverick, a compact pickup truck introduced for the 2022 model year and available with either a hybrid or a gasoline engine, also makes the list. “The Maverick compact pickup has been in high demand since its debut, which forced dealers to stop taking orders for both versions at the end of January, resuming only in mid-September,” said Brauer. “Heightened gas prices have boosted demand for this already-hot seller, with both the hybrid and gasoline versions returning excellent gas mileage, and even these marked-up prices remain attainable for buyers given the starting prices of under $25,000.”

They should break out the power trains on the Maverick between the Hybrid and EcoBoost.

The Hybrid would have a higher markup.

I like the dollar amounts. It only needs a $4600 markup to be on this list in terms of percentage over. I know the Jeeps start where the Maverick tops out.

The Jeep models should sell for 50% off the MSRP.
The aftermarket selection for those specific Jeeps is huge, which is why they are popular. You almost always want to get a base model Wrangler because you are just going to end up modding it beyond belief anyway.

My son wanted me to get a gladiator. Problem is to get the Creature Comforts I want, enough sound dampening to make it practical it would turn into a 50 to $60,000 affair. Told him it did just didn't make sense

Honestly, I had the same thought process. Gladiator has the longevity because there will always be parts available. But Maverick was just too economical.

Definitely think the Maverick should be higher on this list but I wonder if it compares all vehicles sold or those on the lots. If it includes the customer orders that SHOULD be at MSRP then that skews it quite a bit. The average sold on the lot seemed to start at $5000 and go up to $15,000 making it higher.

Can't wait to see where the Ford Lightning falls next year. All the ones I've seen were between 50 and 60% mark-up.

My dealer has one at sticker. But EVs aren't exactly the most popular thing in the South.

Dealer I ordered from had A Lariat Lightning in the showroom for $115,000. They claim they bought it from another dealer for $110k.

Sure, they did, and they only want $5k in profit. ;) ;)

(Also, if new, it should list the original dealer it was sold to on the bottom left of the window sticker. If it's used, you might still be able to get the original ws.)

The only way this will stop is if all these bozos who are willing to play this game with the dealers quit playing! Quit paying 1000's over msrp people! I refuse to, if that means I dont get the vehicle I want for a year or two then so be it... its not the end of the world if its not right now. Anyone who wants to pay extra for a new car can have it, I wont fight you for it even if I had extra money to burn with the already high inflation.
