Working on Mavie 2 today - another employee wreck. Video coming soon. I can verify that it is 100% bolt on and no spot welds. Hey I'm going glass half full lol. Thought everyone would enjoy seeing the skeleton on the rear of the Maverick. My warped mind also thought it wouldn't be that hard to produce some bolt on panels that turned it into a step side 🙄

Wow, there's some places there that are going to need lots of rust proofing attention when mine is done. Thanx!

I think a lowered step side Maverick like the old Splash Rangers would look awesome. The step side panels were fiberglass and of course all bolt on. Some enterprising soul should make the mold.

I hope the Maverick gets built in enough numbers that it becomes popular enough to have fenders, wings, body kits, and all the other jazz that the 80s and 90s trucks had.

Dang! Bolt on panels? Who needs a body shop any more?? Probably cheaper to replace the whole thing then have dents fixed.
Unfortunately they don't come painted so yeah putting a new one on is not that bad however I still have to paint it lol The price of a rear quarter panel will range from 700 to $800 depending on which dealer you go to and your relationship with them.

The other comment that I would make is all these trucks that are hit in the rear and totaled - Many could be repaired but the body shop estimates are through the roof. For example - All the small fasteners I removed from the damage quarter panel I'm reusing but a body shop would quote replacing every one of them. There's so much fat in most of the estimates that I've seen where they total them out. Someone is going to rebuild those after they buy them from copart and sell it with a rebuilt title

Huh, you learn something everyday. I would have assumed that since these are unibody that all the panels would be welded on.

My mind immediately went to some fiberglass box flare fenders. Hmmm...

Or what about utility bed sides with storage boxes?

Totally agree, but a body shop would probably spend more money in labor trying to not break plastic clips and salvaging them....body work is so labor extensive/expensive.

You can see the necked bracing structure is so fragile looking that a Maverick, OR ANY MODERN DAY VEHICLE without a frame is so easy to be totaled. Everything crumples for safety and is not designed for easy repair at a body shop. Every things attached with plastic clips or glue. So many rear-ended Mavericks, reported on this site, are TOTALLED. I will predict auto insurance rates of the future will be a steady rise in costs.

Edit: I checked on the plastic clips and they are a rip-off if you buy in small qtys. 20 are like $5.00 each or box of 200 for like $25.00 a box. Could not cost more than a few cents each to manufacturer.

Insurance for my Maverick is cheap. Less money than my wife's 4 year old Jeep Cherokee and almost exactly the same as my 18 year old Ranger was. I figure the reason for them is basically these vehicles are cheaply priced and safe. Total a Mav, 30K or so gone. One day is the hospital running tests, setting broken bones and maybe an MRI and you can burn through that in no time.

Of course, I am no doctor or insurance agent. I just play them on the internet. :)

Yup. Cheap way to fill out a small fleet.
