Apologies if this is a repost... I looked and did not see it.

IMHO, this article has it completely wrong.

What would I buy if it wasn't available? Probably would have leased another Honda Accord.. and would probably have been a hybrid.

BUT..... I wanted a truck. I have always wanted a truck. I just have not wanted a truck that gets 15 MPG.... EVER. I also didn't want to pay F150/Ranger prices for a truck. I ordered a Tesla truck... but cancelled my order when I placed the order for a Maverick (which I am glad I did... have you seen the production model?)

While some stand alone points are fair the article is wrong. The Maverick couldn’t be a more perfectly timed, priced, and sized entry for the world today. It isn’t much larger than a car and the open bed is why I’m getting it. The fuel economy is stellar.

Can a car do things? Sure
Can a car do things the same as a truck? No

This is one of the most misguided takes I've seen in a long time. I can appreciate it's intent, but it's talking about the Maverick like it's another full sized pickup. In reality, this thing has the same curb weight as a CMax with similar fuel economy. What's so wrong about offering added utility without compromising economy?

We get it. 9 out of 10 truck buyers don't need truck utility more than a few times a year. I (will hopefully soon) like having a vehicle that doesn't make me question "what if" on those few days when I treat my CMax like a moving van. I would have an F150 in a heartbeat if I could find a way to justify the 70k purchase price or sub 20mpg.

Not giving Jalopnik a click! Maverick is so perfect its driving me crazy if I can't get a 2022. I can drive it every day to work and still have utility of a bed and use as a family vehicle.

I have been thinking what to get if no Maverick. Probably keep the civic and buy some truck that sits in my driveway 90 percent of time. Not the best solution.

Maverick wouldn’t be popular if it was priced 10k higher across trim levels. It’s cheap entry level transportation that replaces the fusion and, the fiesta and focus in hybrid trim.

It’s the price point along with the idea of its a truck for most people.

Has that guy ever driven a car with a trunk? Every one my parents or I have owned, has leaked bad enough to fill up with water in an average Texas rainstorm. Manufacturers couldn't be bothered to even put in a drain hole. And yet this numbskull is saying they're somehow more practical?

Jalopnik sucks. They have no idea what they are talking about half the time. Most of their articles are clickbait.
I remember when it used to be a great site with actual good info and interesting ENTHUSIAST perspectives, now it's just a bunch of overprivileged social justice warriors injecting their brainwashed perspectives into everything automotive. I refuse to even give them a click anymore, I want to go there to read about cars and trucks, not some over-educated rich kid's take on the political spectrum and how it very loosely relates to the automotive realm.

I think Jalopnik has gotten worse for the same reason so many resources go toxic, they get bought up by a media giant that changes the playbook for the worse. Remember how awesome Youtube was before Google bought them? Same deal.

Yeah, I am guilty of doing the above WAY too much in college, but its about using the right tool for the right job and that unsecured load in particular being inside the vehicle is going to go straight for the passenger's heads in an accident. A bed has the safety of having sheet metal in between that mass and the passengers and much stronger and easier to access points to secure loads.

I've driven plenty of cars with trunks and never had one leak...

Wow, look at the womansplaining going on there. Could you imagine if a publication put an article out titled: "Dear Women, Please Stop Making Your Eyebrows Look Like They're Stickers"

" And therein lies the undercurrent that I think partially explains the Maverick’s success and everyone’s adoration for it: shame "

Oh yes certainly everyone agrees right ?? - Jeeeez. The success is from just a few factors which are pretty easy for most people to see. 1) Price 2) MPG 3) Its a truck. 4) Lack of competition.

The premise of the article - " Pickups are a funny thing, because they’re irreplaceable for the people that actually need them yet actively impractical for those that don’t. " - Huh ???? a compact 4 door vehicle that gets 40 mpg for 20K - "impractical" no junior, how in the world do you come up with that logic ?

We are all a little bit less intelligent from reading this garbage article..... just stop writing ..... please.
