Today I ventured west of Boulder to ride the Switzerland Trail, a 5 mile former narrow gauge railway route until 1919.
The maverick handled it well with plenty of clearance for the 2/10 rated “trail”. (Here is a link for more info on the trail https://www.onxmaps.com/offroad/trails/us/colorado/switzerland-trail)

Some small areas of washout and some of the larger or sharper rocks had me take it slow in some areas for a total time of 90 minutes to complete.

There are several “off trails” to pull off and chill out/have lunch/take in the views which I plan on taking advantage of next time.

Highly recommended!

Looks great! I’m pretty excited to get my A51 and glad I didn’t switch colors! I still haven’t seen one in real life.

Sounds like you enjoyed the challenge. Looking at your pics, it reminded me that we have roads in TX that are called highways almost as bad. You just about need an off-road package on an FX4, have it lifted and somehow learn how to steer left and right quite often just to navigate the pot holes on some streets near where I live LOL.

In Longmont. Been wanting to make that trip for a while now!
Especially since one interest is railroad history! Have a map
and at least 1 book on the Switzerland Trail. Still some structural
remnants remaining in places, as I recall.

thanks for posting the details and pics!
I am also in Longmont, I ride Switzerland and other local trails on my motorcycle pretty often and had been eying it up for my new Tremor so let me know if you want to do a group trip sometime.

Pic is my Tremor at the Switzerland trailhead near Gold Hill, in its typical role as Thunderbird 2 for the dirt bike.

Another cool drive is Rollins pass, not sure how much it has deteriorated since the early 90’s. The top is above timber line, so awesome views.

It would be cool if you got together with the guys at TFL and did the Ike Gauntlet with them!

yeah, good suggestion! I rode Rollins pass east side on the bike last fall, it’s a long bumpy road but the Maverick could get up there I think. You just need to wait until later in the season for all the snow to clear.

Is the tunnel at the top still accessible by bike or do you have to go around now?
in the mid 90’s it was sketchy, but you could go around in a 4x4 and fill up in Fraiser ( may have misspelled that) The west side is a cool ride as well.

these days they have concrete posts that block the road a hundred yards or so before the tunnel, tunnel itself is closed. I think there is a single track that bypasses it for folks on foot / bicycle but I think they take a very dim view of people using that with motorized vehicles these days.

it’s a bummer because it would be super cool to actually complete the pass and cross to the other side.
