Switzerland Trail in the Maverick

Devils Slide trestles are a bit sketchy as well. The northern bridge has about a 3-4 foot section chopped out of it!! After some dumbass tried to light a fire under the bridge and caught it on fire, doing said damage!! Plus the tunnel itself is slowly caving in. No way to get to the tunnel unless you plan to hike, or ride a mountain/while up, from either side. West side is fenced off at the summit at Corona. About a 2 mile walk maybe.

With a scheduled surgery date, but no time, yet, my trip to explore Switzerland Train will have to wait until sometime after June 15. Go in for heart valve replacement surgery that day! Even a trip up to the hiking train head, Rollins east side, would be fun. I haven't been up that way in maybe 6-7 years now!!

Have a 4-5 part video on YouTube from my last trip up, with the Ranger. Starting as I approached Rollinsville from the north, and ends when I return to Rollins. With a quick turnaround back to grade crossing at Tolland, to hurry up and wait for a loaded coal train to pass, before continuing!! Gotta tweak that section of video. Too much down time waiting for train.

And yes, road was a LOT rougher than camera shows!! Image stabilization for ya!! Watch hood, compared to camera, and listen close as you hear me moaning and groaning as I get beat up!!

Alright you guys inspired me.
Made it up to Rollins East today.

Bigger rocks and a bumpier ride than Switzerland but a lot of fun. Got as far as I could until running into an impassable (for the maverick) snowpack about a mile before Yankee Doodle Lake. Hopefully it’ll be gone next month and will be able to make it to the tunnel (or as close to it as permissible)
