I had called pretty much every dealer in Central and North Florida looking for a Maverick the last 2 months. Looked at quite a few. One dealer wanted $30K over MSRP. I had decided that I would just have to wait till August and order one and get it next Spring if lucky.

One of the sales people I had checked with was a young lady named Taylor Lucas at my local dealer, Gary Yeomans Ford of Ocala. Taylor called me 3 weeks ago and had one that was ordered a year ago and the customer had declined it. It was a XLT Ecoboost AWD FX4 in Carbonized Gray. The dealer wanted $45K. I worked them down to $3K over MRSP. I figured that with at least 8% inflation the 2023's would cost at least that much more and the interest rates on any financing will be double by next Spring too. I brought it home and my wife loved it so much that she decided she would keep it for herself and I once again figured that I would order a 2023 since I really wanted a Lariat Lux Ecoboost anyway. After 45 years of marriage I have learned, happy wife, happy life.

Yesterday Taylor called from the dealership again. She had a Lariat Lux in Carbonized Gray with Ecoboost that someone had traded in with 1100 miles on it. I rushed right down and once again they were asking $45k. Once again I told them I would give them $3k over the original MRSP and they finally agreed when I reminded them it was the last day of the month and know how these big dealers like to get their sales numbers up at the end of the month. Brought it home last night.

Moral of the story is that those of you who have given up on looking and are tired of seeing those high "market adjustment" fees don't give up. It never hurts to make a low ball offer as the worst they can say is no. Always be willing to walk away and have your credit and/or cash ready to go.

We love both of these trucks and my wife is averaging 26.2 mpg city after 2k miles of driving with the Ecoboost.

Call and ask for Taylor Lucas. She is on the ball and very conscientious. I called every dealer within 200 miles and she was the only one who called back after almost 4 weeks after my original call. Tell her Bob Rickel told you to call her.
She even called on a weekend on her day off about the 2nd one.

If you have an order in, just wait it out. Don’t overpay. I owned a Maverick already, and it’s great but not worth above MSRP. Within a few years these things will be on every corner.

Wish I could get just the one I ordered in August
Me Too!!!! I did get a VIN number and scheduled for production June 13.

The local dealer where I ordered last year called me last night. They had a cancelled order, from a guy who had broken his hip, an XLT EB. I took it for a test drive and enjoyed it. The dealer wanted $5K over the $27K MSRP, I didn't try to negotiate since it didn't have a trailer hitch.

I spent last weekend in the nearest big city, prowling Carmax and other dealer lots. The lack of inventory and high prices were shocking. A Maverick with a $3K markup seems like a bargain in comparison.

I think the OP did well.

I guess the days of negotiating for lower prices are over. People are willing to pay a arm and a leg just to have something that will depreciate in 5 years time. Enjoy it now and suffer later. Crazy time we live in.

Instant gratification is deeply ingrained in American culture. Just the very idea that something might be not instantly available will have the American consumer behaving in desperate ways. Remember the toilet paper? Remember seeing pictures of people trying to fill up their tarp-lined truck beds with gasoline?

I'm honestly surprised things aren't worse. All you have to do is announce that your product is not going to be instantly available in mass quantities and the public will run (not walk) to the nearest retailer and pay whatever insane amount to have their hands on it right now. Followed by an immediate social media post about how lucky they are to have scored such a deal, which is a really odd flex. I can't tell you the amount of posts here and on Reddit I've seen where the summary is basically "Look how lucky I am, I got a Maverick without waiting and only paid thousands over MSRP". Whether they "need" it or not - and no matter what anyone on this forum says, a marked-up Maverick is never, ever, ever a "need".

I wish I could understand it, but I don't.

OP has some good points about inflation and interest rates. Nobody knows how much the MY23 Mav is going to be. Interest rates??? This may be a bargain in six months.

Strange Times Indeed.

The OP DID negotiate lower prices x 2! And by a LOT. Disregard MSRP as a starting point (again the S = Suggested). I totally get it people have their personal convictions about not feeling gouged and holding fast on what they perceive to be "fair". Been that way most my life. However, there comes a life stage where just waking up healthy each day is a victory (y) Confronting your mortality gives a different perspective when you are counting backwards on life expectancy and useful years left. Also if you don't have $ worries and a new vehicle fits in your budget easily- paying an extra couple thousand $ for something you really want is totally worth it, even if your younger self wouldn't approve

I’m reaching the point in life where Ranchero’s word are truth. When you are dust in the dirt, you really won’t care about the extra $’s spent.

Carpe Diem

I completely agree with you about the instant gratification. That is why most people in America are financially leveraged to death no matter what their income level and only 2.5 percent of Americans retire comfortably.
I am the OP and am not being defensive and agree with everything you said and was just sharing our story with others and letting them know that they too did not have to pay those incredibly high "market adjustment" fees. In my case we are both retired, own our home, and are totally debt free. We have rarely bought new vehicles in our 45 years together because of the terrible depeciation as soon as you drive out the door.
I was ready to replace both my wife's and my car as both had over 200k on them. I was planning on ordering a new Maverick in August and driving my old car till the new Maverick arrived. My wife was not sure what she wanted to replace her car with so I was just going to let her keep on driving hers till she found somthing that she liked. My son totaled his car a month ago and I gave him mine leaving us with only one car when the girl called from the dealership with the XLT that we bought first. After I got that one my wife decided that she liked it so much that was the vehicle she wanted to replace hers with and then the dealer called with the Lariat. Other than this and some other forums I don't do any social media as I feel it is a total waste of time and is a non productive use of my time.
It is unfortunate that we no longer teach critical thinking in our schools and our young people are certainly not going to learn it from their electronic devices. The majority of Americans are easily led and manipulated by these big corporations, politicians, and their marketing experts and without some major changes our country and society in general will continue to decline.
