I had called pretty much every dealer in Central and North Florida looking for a Maverick the last 2 months. Looked at quite a few. One dealer wanted $30K over MSRP. I had decided that I would just have to wait till August and order one and get it next Spring if lucky.
One of the sales people I had checked with was a young lady named Taylor Lucas at my local dealer, Gary Yeomans Ford of Ocala. Taylor called me 3 weeks ago and had one that was ordered a year ago and the customer had declined it. It was a XLT Ecoboost AWD FX4 in Carbonized Gray. The dealer wanted $45K. I worked them down to $3K over MRSP. I figured that with at least 8% inflation the 2023's would cost at least that much more and the interest rates on any financing will be double by next Spring too. I brought it home and my wife loved it so much that she decided she would keep it for herself and I once again figured that I would order a 2023 since I really wanted a Lariat Lux Ecoboost anyway. After 45 years of marriage I have learned, happy wife, happy life.
Yesterday Taylor called from the dealership again. She had a Lariat Lux in Carbonized Gray with Ecoboost that someone had traded in with 1100 miles on it. I rushed right down and once again they were asking $45k. Once again I told them I would give them $3k over the original MRSP and they finally agreed when I reminded them it was the last day of the month and know how these big dealers like to get their sales numbers up at the end of the month. Brought it home last night.
Moral of the story is that those of you who have given up on looking and are tired of seeing those high "market adjustment" fees don't give up. It never hurts to make a low ball offer as the worst they can say is no. Always be willing to walk away and have your credit and/or cash ready to go.
We love both of these trucks and my wife is averaging 26.2 mpg city after 2k miles of driving with the Ecoboost.
