Loaded our Maverick up with all our toys for our family trip to Pitkin, Colorado. The town is just on the other side of Monarch Pass which crosses the continental divide. Total load including occupants was around the 3,000lb mark. Truck pulled amazingly.

Trailer mode works well and seems to do what it should. But Low mode is where this thing shines! Holy cow, going up and down Monarch Pass was a breeze. Find the speed you want to go, press the L on the shifter and let the truck crawl up and down the mountain. Both times down I probably tapped my brakes a total of 15 times. On the way back home I set the cruise and didn't even bother with the accelerator pedal either. Got a lot of looks both along the way and at our destination. Saw a lot of Mavs along the way as well. Fuel economy was decent at 17.7 (pump calculated trip average) however we had a strong headwind coming home that sucked up the high dollar Colorado fuel we were filling up with. Sag seemed minimal but was still enough to get flashed a few times when night driving. Might need to look at helper bags or something similar.

Overall I'm thoroughly impressed with the capability and comfort of this little guy.

I find it interesting that the truck’s technology actually works and people are impressed. That said I too was impressed with my Rangers FX4 technology and how it works as advertised!! I guess it’s an unexpected surprise 😂

LOL I hear ya. I think my surprise wasn't that it worked, but that it worked as well as it did. I was not expecting the little 4 cylinder to engine brake as well as it did with a load that size. This was my 6th trip over and back but my first ever with automatic trans vehicle.

My Ranger has a 2.3 EB these little motors perform extremely well!! My wife has the hybrid Maverick but for mpg not towing. I’ve got the Ranger for that. Good to go on both ends!!

I have a Hemi ram that I also tow with and my mav seems to do just as good of a job towing my 3000+ pound boat. You can get airbags installed for about 250 bucks.can you select L when towing on the fly?

Looks like a lot of fun. Good to hear about how well it did in the mountains.

Yessir. It's basically a gear hold as best as I can tell. It'll still up/down shift if needed but that range when it does is raised. Held the revs around 4-5k on the way down.

Nice report. How was the braking when you did need to actually use brakes?

I also returned from Colorado yesterday into an expected strong headwind from the east. Never had that before, and I got 17.8 mpg on a tank from Limon CO to Newton KS with the cruise set at 84, so I'm guessing you were going slower, perhaps much slower if you were on US 50 instead of I-70.

I was in Frisco. Here's my rig and the view from 10,600. Air was a tad thin coming from 1300 ft elevation at home, but the temps were nice. :)

Dude small world. I'm from Newton. Braking seemed fine. It was just a gentle application to drop speed a couple MPH here and there.

As far as the route, yeah we kept our speed low. 65 most of the way on US 50 except for a small section of 70 MPH around Garden City.

Nice. I'm from Wichita, Newton was just as far as I could get without getting nervous. On the way out I got 20.5 mpg in a light ~5mph north crosswind, so the headwind cost me 3 mpg with our 3 MTBs acting as an air foil.

I got gas at the Jumpstart in Newton and was shocked that they had 93 octane premium and even more surprised that it was $2.89 for some reason. (Their 87 E10 was $3.09.)

Hopefully, I lose just 1 mpg for my one bike. 😂 I've yet to toss my Canyon Spectral 29 on the 1Up rack I just got.

I drive the same stretch of 135 & I-70 on the way to Switchgrass but honestly have never paid much attention to mpg when using my tailgate pad. The next time I make the trip though I'll make note of the mpg and wind. Guarantee I'll be doing 84mph again. ;)

Nice to see some Midwest folks in here lol. Colinl yeah the Jump Start stations are a little sneaky though. They put the ethanol content stickers down low on the pumps. That 93 octane fuel (I think) is E30. Just a friendly heads up.
