Maverick Police Style Push Bar Build (utilizing Steelcraft 52220P + Custom CAD Brackets) -- custom DIY writeup

To get it out of the way first, I'm a sucker for police car look. Therefore, since the early days of owning a Maverick I've been hoping one of those companies will make a push bumper for Maverick...

But since no company on the market is producing a police style push bumper for Maverick still. And what Steelcraft, the only company that has something remotely similar, made for Maverick officially looks horrendous in my opinion, I ended up designing my own mounting brackets for the Maverick platform to fit a Steelcraft 52220P push bar.

Complete result:
Still preliminary fitment, but overall come out really good imo. The push bar itself needed some trimming at the bottom for the bar to get tight to the bodywork. And clearly some cutting on the bumper cover is needed to pass through the adapter. And the mounting is super solid!

Another benefit of a push bar this style is it offers more front end protection compared to the low mounted versions. Especially during this deer season lol.

* I did photoshop away the front license plate, but the OEM front plate bracket still fits with minor trimming.

The brackets themselves: All 1/4" steel plates, designed in Solidworks w/ OEM tech files.
Some of the hardware can be tricky to access, but mostly a very painless install. No trimming on any structural components here.


3D Printed Cutting Templates - Super solid fitment here!
Used oscillating cutting tool to cut the bumper cover, as well as some other stuff behind it, no biggy.


What it looks like without the push bar on it:


After grinding down the push bar a bit I just used some black touch up paint laying around to cover up the raw metal. Might eventually get it re-powdered but so far the touch up paint looks just fine. And I'm still deciding on what equipment to put on the push bar: siren speaker, light bar, etc...

Overall really happy with how it came out! I figured I share this over here in case anyone is interested in the process!

Very well done! With your skills in creating the adapter brackets, I bet you could create a retrofit tow hook bracket for those that want some kind of recovery hook on a non-FX4/Tremor Mav. Maybe even a subtle screw-in style like offered for other Ford models.

You're a sucker for the police car look,or looking like a police car?the front push bumper is one thing but adding front strobes and a roof light bar looks more like impersonating the police more than anything.becareful out there.looks good though.local municipalities should consider maverick xl's in their fleet.

From what I understand the standard Mavericks are missing the rear attachment point for the OEM FX4 tow hook. That would a pretty chunky piece for bolt-install. But if there's a good amount of interest, I can see if there's some custom tow point I can figure out.

As long as I don't use those lighting on public roads it is perfectly legal. Especially since they're not red/blue, and I don't pretend to be a "police" per se. Been doing similar stuff for quite some time now across a few states, no issue at all!

Damn that looks sleek! I love it!

Steel fabricating is my favorite past time.

After a big wreck in my Peterbilt in 2009 (a drunk illegal pulled out of a side road and I nailed him broadside) I had to fight the other guys insurance.

No money for a $1200 bumper so I fab'd my own.

I used to rent Crown Vics all the time, great road trip barges and got shockingly good mileage on highway but I ALWAYS made a request for non-black cars haha

OP, that's a really nice bumper install and it actually suits the truck's lines pretty well but faking a cop car looks kinda goofy IMHO.

Great work and look. I bought and installed broadfeet bull bar and keko sports bar, my bull bar losses 2 and 3/4 inch ground clearance so your push bar and brackets are better. The other steelcraft bar i have seen did not finish as well. congrats

A++ on the support bracket across both upper and lower crash bars !
You have a market out there for those brackets with the 10’s of thousands of maverics going into utility fleet operations right now!

I am so suprised you havent got the “ you cant do that , its a unibody “ crowd whaling yet!
People dont realize current and past police fleets are all unibody .
From new explorers to the older fox body mustangs and chargers used as highway patrol cruisers.
