I should start by saying besides my Maverick, I have a Ram with a Tri-fold cover. The Maverick is more of a grocery hauler so I don't really need the convenience of a tri-fold. Anyway, the cover is basically a sheet of 1/4 ply glued to a sheet of 1/2" ply that is approx 2" smaller all the way around so only the 1/4" ply sits on the bed sides. I used Oak at the back for strength and also at the front where the hinge is. So, add a couple gas shocks and for around $350 (CAD) I'm good to go.

I ran the material continuous right over the piano hinge so no water gets through. The material does bunch up a little when the cover is raised, but returns to normal when its down, which is 99% of the time. Seems to be dry after a rain, held up to a hail storm as well.

Couple things I still want to do is work on some drain tubes to get rid of the water close to the cab rear window so that it does not just collect there. The other is to add a couple aluminum stiffeners on the underside. The cover as is, is strong but considering its made of wood I don't want it to eventually sag.
Otherwise I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Fantastic. Looks like you could convert it to a hinged trifold easily with your talent if ever needed

Looks really nice. One of the few homemade covers that I've seen that actually looks good.

I like it! It's like the fiberglass one, on my old Ranger. Nice work 👍
