You can Flip the USB ports

2024 Maverick Tremor. Since it has Sync3, I don’t have wireless CarPlay so I bought a wireless CarPlay dongle. The dongle is USB-A but comes with a USB-A to USB-C adapter. Since all of my devices and charging cables are USB-C I decided to use the USV-A port for the dongle so that I could keep the USB-C port free in case I need to charge a second device or a passenger wants to charge.

My OCD hates that the USB-C port was on the top so I popped it off and filliped it upside down . No mods needed. Just a small flathead screwdriver or pry tool.

Now the CarPlay dongle is up out of the way and the USB-C port is easier to access as it’s not right beneath that ledge. Not sure if this bothers anyone else but my fantastical brain is happier with that small tweak.

I'll agree, that's some OCD. Awesome that simple solution made you happy. One question though, did your screwdriver gouge the plastic in the process that much around the usb ports??

My OCD has to see that light so upside-down won't work.

What is that to the left of your usb ports?
Is that an ashtray?
Did you spring for the smokers package?
My 2025 doesn't have that.

Yeah it did. I should have used a towel or a proper pry tool. I didn’t expect the plastic to be quite that soft.

I too was thinking about doing this. I've tried three different dongles each with their own limitations. The one you installed is pretty small. I like that. Are you happy with it's performance? If so, where did you get it?

Being somewhat OCD myself the pock marks in the plastic would bother me more than which port was on top.

But, now the USB image points in the wrong direction and everything plugged into the USB-A port would be upside down....would that also not trigger an OCD alert?

On the plus side, the USB image now looks like a depiction of the new Ford assembly line going in at Louisville....so, you should be ok....

I’m only a few days into it but so far it seems to work just fine. I jump in the car and drop my phone on the charging pad. I have an automation configured to automatically turn on Bluetooth when my phone is charging and it turn it off when my phone stops charging. By the time I have my seatbelt on and I’m ready to put it in gear, CarPlay is connected and displaying on the screen.

Does this work with Samsung ultra s25? My current wireless plug in worked flawlessly for s22 but continually skips on all audio on the upgraded phone.

Samsung phones would use Android Auto but yes, it supports both CarPlay and Android Auto. As to whether or not it specifically would support the S22, I can’t say definitively because I don’t have that phone to test with, but it should.

it’s not very expensive. Give it a go and if you don’t like it, return it.
