I asked my dealer why they don't put XM in trim levels lower than the Lariat and was told there's a chip shortage, etc. I feel this is a BS answer, because Toyota, Hyundai, Chevy, etc., all come XM ready. At least make it a stand-alone option, for God's sake! Anyway, XM is one of the reasons I ordered a Lariat.

And for those saying just stream it through your phone, that's great if you always have perfect cell reception. I don't.

As for the kits shown above, I'd rather have it built into my stock radio than have to add the clutter of a bunch of modules and wires.

This is one of the so far minor irritations I have about this vehicle. Another being the lack of a manual sliding rear window option for the 2024 and the ugly ass interior color on the standard Lariat (had to get BAP to get rid of that).

It is a bit disheartening about the radio. As an old dude (57) , I have tons of CD's and would loved to have played them in the Maverick! I have the XM on my phone and use that for listening to tunes. Maybe, someone will make an aftermarket CD player to install, one day . Crutchfield offers none, and doesn't recommend replacing the stock radio .😔
Looking at the radio controls when I first got mine. It sure looked like a cd slot was there. Went months thinking that. Have not used cds though in many years.

Why would someone spend $350 for that hardware that requires pulling some of the dash apart for installation, running the antenna cable, etc. plus paying the monthly subscription when they can just play it from their phone for free (if they have a subscription on another vehicle) or only pay for the new subscription?

The reason that Ford went in this direction on the low/mid level Mavericks is cost avoidance especially when our society is cell-phone centric. Virtually everything can be done on a cell app.....

I don't lose cell/Sirius connection any more than I lose direct Sirius in my other vehicles, but I'm on a Verizon cell connection.

I too was worried as my wife loves XM, but using the phone app with Carplay has worked great. Don't miss the true satellite connection at all.

I really appreciate reading everyone’s thoughts on the xm radio. For the most part I’m in good cell service and will steam on my phone. This is not a priority for me but it is nice once you have it and then go backwards.

Your first mistake was asking your dealer................

It is kinda the definition of trim levels. If all the levels had the same options they wouldn't be trim levels.

I’m glad I asked the dealer or it would have been a nasty surprise like the OP got. I just assumed it would be on the SLT because the other manufacturers have it on ALL trim levels. Hell my bottom trim level 2009 Ram 1500 ST has it. Like someone said, it’s going backwards. Also the Ram is the last vehicle I ever bought with a CD player. Never used it much and I think it no longer works.

Where I live, Verizon is no better than the other two carriers. And quite often, it's worse. You may get a VZW signal, but you often can't do anything with it.
YMMV

I looked at the $350 add on, but ended up putting the car kit from my old truck in and adding the fm adapter. I liked the integration offered by the USB kit but didn't want to pay for another device subscription and didn't know how it would play with a wireless android auto dongle already using a USB port. I can just swap the xm radio between my cars when I drive something else, and I have the cheapest data plan I can use in a phone. A small hole in the upper corner of the cubby for cables and a box insert to mount the radio on. I'm happy with it.

Its a inexpensive Truck. You get what you pay for. Some people don't know what they are buying. No one gives you anything for nothing. A lot of people buy the XL and buy items that they want and installs them to save a lot of money. I'm lazy. I got a fully loaded 22 Lariat and just order a 24 Lariat which comes with everything I wanted.
