XLT order here, considering stepping down to the XL..

Anyone out there like me, kinda old and worried about the dash and the door inserts on the XLT. I very much remember styrofoam coolers..and man that is what I see. I’m afraid that interior won’t age well! I’m 54 and planning on retiring next year and this should be my last truck for a while. I love the features of the XLT, just seems crazy to by the XL and turn around and dump a bunch of cash into aftermarket cruise, wheels, etc…etc..

My 2 cents;
I just finished detailing my daughters 2005 Honda Civic. Lots of plastic pieces of various grains and colors. Car looks brand new now. She was amazed.

I ordered the XLT with cruise, power mirrors and wheels. Mainly because my wife will drive it and she is used to those features. At 73 years old, your are just way younger. I am used to those add on features also and like them. This could be my last truck, why not make driving it easier. The money for the upgrade if you spread the cost over 10-15 years of use is hardly anything to worry about?

I went from XL to XLT. Ford has this figured out, it will age well.

Indeed, no need to over complicate. My little 1973 42hp gutless wonder tends to be more low maintenance than my GTI that will soon be getting replaced by the Maverick.

Having seen both the XLT and XL interiors, I like the XL interior better. Having said that, I ordered the Lariat Lux to get the extra goodies and not having to deal with the XLT interior. Having said THAT, at this point I would likely take anything just to get it done with.

I am coming from a fully loaded Honda Accord with leather. I too was hesitant of the XLT. However I did not like the look or feel of the Leather in the Ford trucks.

So i went with the XLT to save money. I think the picture do not do it justice. The seats are very nice. The all plastic is a bit a cheap but it has not bothered me much so far.

I couldn't get over the blue or the orange accents inside. Stuck with the XL.

What products did you use? To detail your plastic interior/exterior? I *need* to know

Thanks for reminding me. I have not tung oiled my plastics in over two years. Try to do annually but.... Soaks in and replaces at least some of the oils in the plastic that have evaporated out. Ice chests seem particularly vulnerable to cracking etc when they dry out. Can use many oils but most tend to yellow with age or are too thick. Wipe on lightly then wipe all you can off as any left bulk left on surface may take weeks to dry past "sticky" stage.

If you don't need or want awd or cruise control go with xl .

I recommend XLT. I test drove it and didn’t mind the plastic materials. If you are super worrried about the sun beating them up consider a clear ceramic windshield tint. I’m getting one right away to block the heat/UV Rays, but Im in Arizona and will likely park this outside all the time.

While the inserts on the doors of the XLT might look like a styrofoam cooler that's definitely not what they are made out of. The light colored bits are made of reground carbon fiber and I feel like Ford really put a lot of thought into the interior while still using inexpensive materials to keep it cheap. It's probably the nicest interior you'll get on a sub-$30k vehicle honestly. I would say get the XLT if it has features you want or you'll just spend the extra money adding those features to the XL.
