It probably did, but I couldn't find a new Maverick equipped like I wanted. so I bought a used one and Ford dealer I bought it from had only one key. I got a Lariat AWD with lux package and copilot360. Gets great mpg I’m averaging 34-35mpg.
If I was you I'd get the truck re-keyed. Possible that the original owner still has one of the keys.

They need to be together, there is a super short range proximity transponder to disable the factory immobilizer.

Is my pocket a close enough range? I was thinking about just leaving the fob in my pocket. The key I can leave somewhere near the driver seat when I get out.

No, it needs to be were the fob is attached to the key. Others have tired, doesn't work.

Still wondering if you only got One key for your Lariat. Did you just want a third?

Ah, didn't see that. Just read the reply(second one)to my comment, which didn't answer the question. Thanks.

Not a bad deal for a programmed key. Those can get expensive. I have a used 2008 mini Cooper for my daughter with only one key, they want $300 to give me another one.

Truck was owned in a different state, so I should be good.
I sold my Hyundai Sonata to Carvana. I noticed that when they listed it for sale, only 1 key was mentioned. I gave them 2. Had a friend buy a used BMW, also only came with 1 key. Are dealers keeping a key in case of a repo?

For the most part* once it's funded the dealer doesn't care about your loan. They aren't doing the repo themselves. That's between you and the bank at that point.

*Yes, if you dump the loan in under 3 months the bank might take back their reserve payment. And in sub-prime land there might be more stipulations/penalties on loan maturation.

3 things.

1) Carvana probably messed up with the listing. Look around, there are other listings that do show 2 keys. I sold them a car with 2 keys, and that's what they list. They included a picture of the keys in their gallery for the listing, showing both of them bound together.

2) Carvana offers in-house financing, so they may actually care about what happens after they sell the vehicle. That said, you're not obligated to use their in-house financing (or any financing at all).

3) That's not even a commonly known tactic of the less reputable buy here, pay here type of used car dealer. Trackers are common in some of those instances, but not maintaining a key. One might think that would be questionable at best from a legal standpoint, but you'd want to consult a lawyer for official guidance on that subject.

Carvana actually doesn't hold the loans it sells. They near-immediately resell it to another bank.
Many lenders do the same thing. They make the loans, package them up, and sell them off as securities, as your linked article notes. The main difference from other lenders is that Carvana doesn't service the loans, per said article. That doesn't contradict what I said. They may stop caring about a specific loan once it's sold off, but if too many of their loans turn into bad investments for those buyers, then yes, they will care.

As opposed to a dealer arranging financing directly with an outside lender, who is free to either hold the loan themselves or sell it off.

But this is entirely unrelated to the point that there is no business case where it makes sense for a business the size of Carvana to keep spare keys to the cars they sell, financed or not. Never mind that this is the Carvana that can't even handle basic title paperwork to save its existence. Now it is ineligible to hold a dealer license in Michigan for three years as part of a settlement agreement. So no, Carvana has no place holding onto hundreds of thousands of spare keys.
