With the lack of hybrid production and the increased possibility of actually getting a truck at all if one opts for the EcoBoost engine, I was thinking.

What if the dealer comes to me and says I have a nice HPR Lariat coming that you could have in place of the hybrid you ordered, would you like to flip over to it instead? Then down the line convert it to a hybrid with a power train from someones bad fortune of wrecking their new hybrid.

Are the engines swappable? Mountings close? How much is priority EB versus Hybrid on these things.

You aren't going to be changing the power-train after the fact, it's not just the engine, it's the tranmission, the high voltage wiring, the position of the 12v battery (hybrid is in the cabin beacuse of the inverter under the hood for the electric motors, ECO under the hood), the space for the hybrid battery (EB has a slightly larger back seat), the electric AC compressor vs traditional in the EB, and so much more. Totally different setup.

Yeah, I was figuring on other items as well but seems the list might be a tad long. Maybe just buy the EB, pray for the Hybrid in 24? At least I'd be driving something that isn't 41 years old. And 1 star rated for safety features. It does have a seatbelt.

The cost and complexity of gutting the entire powertrain and replacing it makes absolutely zero financial sense unless you were monetizing the process (e.g. a successful YouTube creator who had a solid business case for it). Even taking a loss on an EcoBoost to sell/trade toward a hybrid later would make much more financial sense.

It would be easier to just buy a hybrid badge and tack it on! Lol!

If you really want a hybrid then wait for it and buy a beater for now to tie you over.

This is a terrible idea. Would be a fortune and a lot of customization.

Yeah, but would it void the warranty?

Very much yes, on any parts directly involved and failures of any other parts that could be attributed to the proposed surgery.

I believe my 1981 VW Pickup with the 1.6 turbo diesel in it qualifies as my beater. My 1996 Ford Ranger XLT is the luxury truck. When the Maverick gets scheduled these will see for sale signs in the windows. Till then I will drive em and maintain em.

The solution was to order one of each and trade in the ice maverick for more than you paid for it, or sell it out right when the hybrid shows up hopefully in that order
