Another option is to leave the wipers down and use the spray-on deicer after you park - but I always forget to do it when the overnight or next-day precip would call for it!

Good call, yooper. Those freezing ice storms always seem to catch me by surprise

Automatically, like my Mav is alive tucking in for the cold?

Ohh no, this evil must be stopped! It's Maximum Overdrive. We need Emilio to put a stop to the madness.

Apparently they will automatically retract and scrape along the upper edge of the hood .

Unrelated, who makes good touch-up paint?
Been there, done that. :(

Im not sure how any Maverick truck owners can put the wipers all the way up as they hit the back of the hood first. For me, Im lucky to have a garage and heated wipers.

Or you could invest in a windshield cover. When I lived up north it saved a lot of time scraping ice or removing snow.

I just learned the heated wiper park works at 18°F and below "to keep the rubber pliable to get a clean sweep across the entire arc".

I'm in CA. That explains why mine don't come on. And never will.

Very Interesting...
I have NEVER had that problem. It maybe the way I have handled, ICE on my windshields.
Always have turned off my wipers before shutting down the vehicle. And have used a plastic scrapper to loosen up any ice. Than, lifted the blades to get at the ice. around them.
I must be lucky...

The last 20+ years all my pup's have had the luxury of a garage, not heated mind you. But, staying out of the wind, does make a difference... ;)

The wiper controls are off when this happens, which is why it is surprising and unexpected. The Maverick's recessed wiper pocket tends to collect and freeze over when those nasty snow/rain/sleet storms come through, and lifting the wipers up after the fact to chisel things out isn't an option since the arms need to travel through the ice dam in order to be raised.

I'm going to try moving 1000 miles south and buying a garage, be back in a few.
