Windshield replacement

Has any one had to replace there windshield ? Wondering price range. Insurance is a 500 deductible. Rock truck was untarped on the interstate showering. Cars. All around him caught one to the. Bottom corner n it. Cracked it. And since has spidered. Since yesterday.

Safelite quotes $990 for self-payment, but I'm not a fan of their service. The last time I had a chip repaired, their technician did a subpar job, so I swore never to use them again. Luckily, I opted for windshield insurance from the dealer (not Ford), covering cracks and replacement up to 5 years with unlimited mileage. I paid $495 for this coverage, and considering the cost, I'm pleased with the decision.

Having a dash cam could have allowed you to file a claim against the company. If you don't already have one, consider spending $50 to get a dash cam.

Looks like one guy on here did the RainX a few times. I seen RainX,3M,Permatex and JB Weld.
Obviously those are big names and make quality product. Since a member mentioned RainX I will pick that one up.

Many insurance companies will pay for chip repair done at a glass shop - no deductible.

Check yours to be sure.

My wife and I have Auto Owners for our car insurance, and despite having a $500 deductible for most things, it's zero for glass. We've had windshields replaced and never paid a cent.

I'm sure we end up paying for it in our premiums, though. Still, it's nice not to have to worry when it does happen.

Obviously those are big names and make quality product. Since a member mentioned RainX I will pick that one up.

Can't speak to the others but I've used the Permatex twice, my Ranger and sisters Forester. Both needed no further repair.

Hint - make the repair in the shade and move it to the sun to cure or use a UV light

Yes - I had my windshield replaced this past week at Safelite and they did a great job for me. I was worried it would be a plain jane replacement but they installed the exact same windshield. I was quoted around $1000 but in the end it was just under $750.

Hi. In Florida if owner has comprehensive insurance, then insurance has to pay for windshield, without a deductible. Maybe your state is same

Carrying comprehensive insurance (fire, theft, vandalism and glass damage) is essential. My comprehensive has a deductible except for glass coverage, which has a zero $ deductible. This pays for professional chip repair or windshield replacement (my choice) at zero expense. And I have used that for windshield and even rear camper shell window replacement on my previous truck though not on my Maverick. And the additional cost of having comprehensive (whether or not you have collision coverage) is very small. I carry it even on old cheap vehicles on which carrying collision coverage is no longer practical. Check the cost and you will probably decide to add it. And check what options you have for the separate deductibles within that. Zero on glass still is cheap.

Make sure you get the right windshield. The Lariat has a heated windshield for the wipers and sound proofing its more then the normal windshield.

I've had it done 3 times via safelite and never had an issue with them. Everything was covered by USAA when I did it. Not on the Maverick though, but just food for thought and my experience with safelite.

I agree with others about this stuff - make sure your insurance covers it. It shouldn't be more than a couple dollars more per month and mine is so low I set everything to zero for the deductible. If you can't do it online I wouldn't use their service. With USAA I have the ability to change everything and anything and see how much the changes cost too. I'd never take some blanket quote from a sales rep over the phone.

My current insurer doesn't offer zero deductible glass unless I pay for zero deductible on BOTH comprehensive and collision, no separate glass coverage. I'm about to hange companies, making sure I find one with glass coverage as a separate thing.
