This is true. The logic behind depressing the brake pedal with push-button start is so that you don't accidentally bump the button. Or even in case of an electrical fault with the start button - you have to take an intentional action to tell the car that you really do want it to start.

Remote start via your fob requires a 2-step sequence (lock and then start 2x), which takes the place of foot on brake + start button. Remote start via FordPass requires similar confirmation step. Thus going from remote start to Run only requires a press of the Start button inside.

Though even knowing this, force of habit will push some of us to depress the brake pedal anyway to go from remote start to Run...

Turning a key to the Start position is a lot harder to do accidentally.

Yep. Still trying to break the brake pedal habit that was necessary on my prior vehicle. Cruise control was on the opposite side of the steering wheel. Wiper lever went down, not up… ‍

It's just habit for me to swing my right foot up and onto the brake pedal getting in my truck and tap the start button while the other foot makes it's way in and the door closes.

I am thinking that the gear shift interlock probably took away the requirement for a foot on the brake when starting the vehicle.

Out of habit, I always put my foot on the brake.
That is why, I sat on the passenger side when I made the video to highlight the fact that the brake was untouched.

Reminds me of my Dad's best friend who would buy new cars but only when absolutely necessary. Finally bought a vehicle with a brake/shift interlock in the mid 1990s. The salesman had to explain to him how to get the vehicle out of park because he was not in the habit of pushing the brake pedal when going into gear.

On the flip side....

You can turn the key off in Drive (or Reverse, and probably Neutral) and the truck will automatically go to park if wheel speed is under 3 mph.

A bit of a jolt at 3 mph and not recommended. But harmless if you are completely stopped.

Can you put it in gear? If not.... then yeah, your in accessory mode.

And, be sure to not only touch the brake, but push it down atleast a half inch or better before trying to start it. Would rather have a shifter than the stupid dial thingy.

Wow, I love my “dial thingy”. I’m used to the muscle memory and spin that dial easily after a year and a half. Also, I love not having that “gear shift Knob thingy” sticking up, blocking my access to the front cubbie.

The only gripe I have about the knob is that it doesn't have any "stops" built into it and you can spin it infinitely in any direction. I'd prefer a column shift but those are about as common as hen's teeth in the modern world.
