I'm considering buying an extended warranty and was wondering if doing your own oil changes will cause warranty problems. I have a 2023 XLT

Absolutely should NOT void the warranty as long as you (self) document all the work and keep all the receipts for all the parts (oil and filters). I've got the 10 yr warranty coming with my Mav and will be doing all the oil/filter basic maintenance myself.

In addition any repairs done on self-maintained parts would only apply to that part. Changing your own oil wouldn't be related to work on rear end for example.

I picked up this little packet for my glove box to keep everything organized...

Nope. Just document everything very well. Receipts, pictures of mileage/% oil life (and I also take pics of the new oil and filter) before/after oil/filter changes, using correct FoMoCo spec oil and 'good' filters (I'd use a Motorcraft filter unless you really think you have a better alternative). All auto companies have gotten pretty strict on warranty work.

One thing I'll say, there are specs for filters, the easiest way to protect yourself is to use Ford filters.

Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act has already been brought up.
The issue with that Act is the dealer has all the power. When they deny a warranty waving that Act in front of them does nothing. You'll have to fight them and that costs time and money.

For all my cars, to cover my ass, I use the manufacturer's filter while under warranty. A few bucks per oil change is worth avoiding the possible hassles later.

I use blue painters tape and a Sharpie to make a sticker for my DIY oil/filter changes. I record date, mileage and put "O+F". The sticker goes on the door frame. I keep the receipts for the oil and filter purchase in a file folder.

I have never had to make a warranty claim so I can't address how it will be handled doing DIY oil/filter changes. I use a Motorcraft 910s oil filter to eliminate that as a point of contention should the worst occur.

Filters at dealer are cheaper than big box stores.

I was just at my dealership and asked what the cost for an oil change is. The tech said $180. I laughed and he said, oh that includes tire rotation and top off fluids.
The good thing is that if you dp it at the dealerships they can also correct the constant recalls for free.

I let the dealer do it myself. Cost me about $90 and that's oil change, change the filter, rotate the tires, 27 point inspection, top off the fluids, and once in a while they even wash your car and vacuum it out but not as often as they used to.

You can get Motorcraft oil filters almost anywhere other than a dealer.
