I get why y'all are grumpy about it. However, it's the same reason why you can get a rear locker on a Ranger XL 2WD for $420 and you can't get one on a Bronco Base (without Sasquatch). Ford has determined that it is not worth it to offer the FX4 on the XL Maverick and they want you to do the price walk. They've made the determination that they can offer an FX2 package on the Ranger XL but not an FX4 package on the Maverick XL.

They also don't offer the FX4 on XL Rangers last I checked, you can on the F150 but that's such a wide market that it makes sense. XL is a base trim that most dealers don't expect to sell to the general public and are usually marketed as fleet vehicles. Especially with the improved features at a minimal cost increase dealers are more likely to sell XLT models

They do. You can get a 4WD XL with tow package and FX4 for $34785. Ford plays their game and couples it with the STX package to be able to get it. For that price the Ford Ranger isn't in the running due to the Jeep Gladiator and Tacoma coming into the picture. The new Nissan Frontier would come into play if it is good as the reviews say it is once it hits the street.

Now the Maverick XL 2.0 AWD/FX4/4KTow package at $26,000 and change is a real winner for the budget minded soft overlanding or weekender exploring types.

That is the thing I don't get about this complaint. Sure, you can't get it in an XL - but to actually get the FX4, you've moved up to a significantly better trim level and are still a full eight grand below a lower spec Ranger equivalent. And still we are complaining?

No complaining or complaint here just asking why to get a better understanding and trying to see a different perspective that I may be missing. The prevailing theme is to give for more money for a better trim package to get what I am willing to pay for that isn't offered. It would cost me another $2000 for the significantly better trim package that I don't need or want. That money is better spent on better fishing, camping, kayak/canoe or mtn biking equipment or gas money to go on better and farther adventures with a truck. This is the beauty of competition and choice in the market.

Plus on the outside chance that the Ford Maverick team is actually reading these forums and getting customer feedback on what some people may want in the market that they aren't offering my voice may be heard. Fingers crossed it may happen before I purchase a truck that wouldn't be in the FORD family because the Ranger doesn't do it for me or my money.;)

I'm with you. Getting an XL. I have zero interest in technology and aluminum wheels.

My very first project will be to get some skid plates and bolt them on myself. Hill descent would be nice. Since I'm getting 4k tow I may have that anyway. Don't know.

Otherwise I have a real 4WD already.

XL is the diy truck I think. Order the tow hooks and skid plates from the Ford parts catalogue and add them yourself. Probably can't add the two offroad modes, oh well. Add some all terrain tires and you're good to go
