The “why” is easy…they want it real bad and can afford it. It’s like asking a woman why she’d want a $300-$500 designer pocketbook. I wouldn’t pay 3-5K over MSRP, even though I want one and can afford it...it’s a matter of practicality and principle. I’ll wait for my base XL to be built.
Exactly. it's the same thing with anything... who really needs a $500 golf club? A 34 foot boat? 50 pairs of shoes? A crazy gun collection? A $1000 drone? A $200 bottle of wine? We all have our toys and we spend money on what makes us happy.

I would think greed is inflation! Is greed not prices going up?
It's a voluntary purchase. The price of things like gas, food, electricity... things we have no choice in... that's the effect of inflation. I bought my Maverick at MSRP. That another person would willingly pay more is not an inflationary value. It's voluntary (and a bit silly) value of the purchase.

My point is they'll switch over to making more Mavericks because they're already building too many BS's

It's all my fault. I am the one responsible for the inflation and high prices.
I am 73, have had two cancers and I can afford whatever vehicle I want, Porsche, audi, etc.
I also like the idea of not using gasoline and think hybrids are great.
I don't know how long I have left on the planet, so sorry to be so arrogant, but I feel no remorse for paying $6 K over on a Lariat since I was flat on my back and did not even know about the Maverick when Ford first opened up pre ordering. It's all my fault. Pile on.
You dirty son of a.... sven? Berwyn? 🤔

Ohh well cant fault a survivor and one that isnt broke either. My mom, didnt make it(not without a fight), but my dad and my wife did. The Maverick is about the only new vehicle I can afford. Just glad we got a cool one for under msrp.

Supply and demand or not, it's just crazy to pay so much over the actual value. I guess if it's something you always wanted or simply have little to no self-control you pay the asking price.
The finance guy told me the average payment today is in the $700 range. I cannot imagine paying that much for a vehicle each month, that's darn near a mortgage on something that will depreciate with age and use -- that is unless it is really something unique or kept unused for an extended period of time.
But, prices are crazy as it is and not about to get any cheaper, either. As a coworker noted, it would cost him about $20k more to replace his Super Duty which is but a couple years old and not anywhere near being loaded either. So why would anyone pay several thousand more?

Laugh all you want but there are Santa Cruz's by me going for a few grand off sticker. I am in the Chicagoland area. I went to look because my car got totaled. Special financing at 3.9% and 1-3 grand off sticker. Trust me, I got phone calls for 2 weeks to come back and lets make a deal. Plenty of other commodity vehicles are going for under sticker. Unless you are totally locked in on the Maverick, there are other options.
I have no argument with anyone who chooses to purchase a Santa Cruz. But to me, the Santa Cruz is not a direct competitor for the Maverick Hybrid on fuel mileage alone. Add the price differential, and the Maverick Hybrid is in a class of it's own.

I've waited so far 8 months for my truck and now shows it as "built". My dealer won't charge me a penny over MSRP for it. Before I pay over MSRP for it, I would tell them to shove it and just keep driving my F150 which gets 23 on the highway and has had ZERO issues in the nearly 100K I've driven it.

I'll drive my current vehicles to half a million miles before I EVER pay over MSRP for anything!

Please show me where I said hybrid. I was speaking Maverick in general.
OK, then show us the "plentiful" list of non-hybrid small pickups under $40K. I'll still wait...

I asked about the hybrid, because that's the model that is driving high markups. Ecoboost markups are considerably lower. But OK - show your list...

There are other hybrid trucks available without a markup right now? Please show me where. Why would anyone by a car they don’t want to drive unless it’s a teenager getting their first car or someone who can only afford a beater?
This is not directed at you; just answering your question. Cheap people who don't value vehicles for anything other than their utility buy cars they don't like, even if they can "afford" something else. I'm one of those people. The Maverick will be the first new vehicle I've purchased in 25 years of driving and the first in almost 15 years that I'll actually be proud to drive. $20k for a reasonably sized utilitarian truck that gets 40 mpgs...checks all the boxes for me. Enough for me to take the hit on the purchase of a new model.

Just curious the mentality and reasoning of these mark ups and who is actually paying them. I understand and totally aware of dealers asking several grand over MSRP on " abandoned " orders...

But seeing so many posts of folks that sold their trucks to carmax or carvana or just back to the Ford dealer etc... For 5-10 grand over MSRP in many cases, which means the buying dealer is going to mark it up additionally another few grand.... It just puzzles me, who is wanting one of these trucks that bad that they would pay what could be well over 10 grand over MSRP on one of these.

I feel like I have wanted one myself pretty bad, but I also really don't want one at a price point any higher than MSRP. I have multiple orders pending, a XLT trim level and a Lariat trim level... One is a little under 30 grand, the other is close to 35 grand. I don't see these trucks being worth any more than that. I understand that a new F150 or even Ranger is a ton more, but to me they are far more substantial vehicles ( and over priced at that ). But I can't wrap my head around paying over 30 grand for a used XL or over 40 grand for a used XLT. Even paying those prices for new ones someone else backed out on, I start to think of what other vehicles I could purchase for that same sum of money and it is a LONG list of far better vehicles.

But clearly there is a market for Mavericks at 5-10 grand over MSRP or else we wouldn't be seeing these high offers being given...

Following auctions on Cars and bids, seems like vehicles like the Riven trucks and lightnings, broncos etc... The market has softened and these trucks are rarely selling for over MSRP now. Heck, even the last few Mavericks sold there barely went for over MSRP.

IDK.... lot's of thoughts go through my head when I think of all this. I don't know what to think. I mean, are these trucks that special that people really think they are still a good buy at WAY over MSRP? Or is this just a sign of American excess, where some folks just simply want one bad enough that they will pay whatever they have to pay to get one? Or is it something else?
I did and boy did I get took for a ride. I paid 39k for my xlt maverick and the dealer only gave me 20k for my 2014 f150 ecoboost. I complained to ford about the deceptive practices at the dealer I bought from and they have never responded. I love my maverick but this is most likely the last ford I will ever buy due to the dealer and ford bot controlling price gouging

I get it. But what I don’t like is people who bash others for paying over MSRP. It’s trollish. Who cares.

I'll give you two. Santa Cruz and Gladiator Sport. Both for under MSRP and special rate financing. Wait till the end of summer and guarantee there will be discounts on Ranger and special financing to get the old model out. Things aren't as bad you think they are but hey, put your head in sand to support your argument.
