Wheels advice please

Planning on changing the wheels / wheel color on my Maverick.

I purchased it in Terrain color, with the plan to change the wheels into bronze down the line.



Options that I have in mind are as follows

• Plastidip
• Vinyl Wrap
• Powder Coating
• After Market wheels

I need advice, if any of you have had any of the options above, I need your Pro’s Vs. Con’s spiel.



With the help of AI I rendered the original wheels with bronze color.

I love the original wheels in bronze. Might want to try Plastidip.

Have used it on my Jeep Wrangler before and it came out great. If you don't like it just remove it - but don't wait years as it will be hard to do.

The first thing is whether you are sure you want bronze.
If not, you can buy vinyl wrap on Amazon and put some on as a test. I’m doing this on a different car to see what I like. Wrap was $40.

As far as wrapping a wheel as a ‘permanent’ thing. I had watched a lot of videos, for my test. Most people just wrap the lip or the top of the spokes. It would very hard to do the inside of the rim, so you have to pick where to end the wrap and leave the rest of the wheel the stock color.

As far as powder coating vs aftermarket, these are the things I have been considering:
1. With after market, you need to get another set of TPMS sensors, or swap from the factory rims. If you swap, you have to pay to have the tires unmounted from the stock rims.
2. If want to keep your stock tires, you need to get rims of the same size as your stock rim. Or just get an entire set of rims & tires & TPMS, the pick the rim size you desire.
3. For powder coat, I suspect the tire has to come off, along with the valve stem. So tire will still be de-mounted in this scenario. BTW - If care isn’t take, the TPMS can get broken when tire unmounted. But shouldn’t be a problem at a good shop.
4. The other thing with getting a complete separate set, to keep in mind, is that you need room to store the original set or deal with sell them.

NOTE: there are different frequency TPMS, and I believe ‘25 are different from ‘22-24, so be careful of that.

In the end, only you can decide what options fits you.

Seems anything but Plastidip needs the tires off, which means the "downtime" will be longer. (even longer with painting or powder coating because of the prep work)

You’re welcome.
Depends on what you mean by downtime.
If you get aftermarket rims, that should be a single trip. Bring rims, in the bed, and they can swap everything; drive home with old rims in bed. Or just get the rims with tires & TPMS already installed and just swamp them yourself; places like TireRack will do that.
