How did you deal with the wheels being designed for M12 lugs and having M14 studs? If you just used M14 lugs, did they seat properly?

Nope. Drilling out the holes would result in weakened steel rims. The holes have reinforcement metal around the holes to support the weight of the vehicle.

The M12 vs M14 studs makes it very sketchy to make them work safely.

First of all, who said they were reaming out the holes? It isn't necessary. Bolt holes for 12mm studs are 15.5mm diameter. So you can easily use the wheels with 14mm studs. Like I said before, they generally don't make wheels to fit a specific stud size. The weight of the vehicle is supposed to be supported by the center-bore of the wheel. But its often suppoted by the tapered fit between the lug nuts and the wheels. Which is fine.
Besides, there are a bunch of people here that have already told the OP that there is no problem using the wheels he wants to use.
