Regarding his surprise about Shell doing this, he must not be aware of how many fossil fuel companies have their fingers or hands in the renewable energy markets.
Not surprising - they see the future and want to keep some market share.
Of course he mentions that later, so only surprised for initial effect.

I'm cracking up, I just had to stop looking at the EV deep dive thread where the idiots were talking about the charging cable being too heavy for feeble people and the car dying overnight, then I see a megacorporation studying and advertising EV technology because they know it's here to stay and only getting more prevalent and profitable.

Sucks for the people that can lift gas station hoses but not charging cables:/
