Other than the Order Sheet Is there another legal document such as a sales contract or purchase agreement that determines the sale price of an ordered vehicle? It seems a lot of people upon ordering a high demand vehicle are hit with markups of up to $6K from the original order sheet. How do you prevent a dealership from doing this $6K markup to you?

I have three 2023 Maverick XL Hybrids ordered from 20 Sep 23. I received a build date of 31 Jul 23 for only 1 of 3 Mavericks. I went to see my Ford salesman on Mon, 17 Jul 23 to reorder 2 of 3 Mavericks for 2024 with price protection. The salesman after talking to the owner of the dealership presents me with three 'Order Fulfillment Vehicle Visibility' sheets each with Order#, VIN#, Primary Status of 'In Order Processing' and Secondary Status of 'Scheduled to Day (2023-08-02; 08-03, & 08-05). He claims these sheets show all three of my ordered Mavericks are scheduled for early Aug 23 production. Yet I only have one email from Ford for only one VIN# with a build date of 31 Jul 23. Am I being scammed? Since I now have a build date I offered to put a deposit down, but salesman says I don't need too. Red Flag?

Why doesn't Ford's website state what the interest rate currently is for a Ford Maverick? Does anyone know?

The only legal document that determines the price is a purchase agreement, signed by both buyer(s) and seller(s).

When you use the '24 build website it shows loan rate of 7%.

Also, the credit score of the loan applicant changes what interest rate they receive. Even financing special deals always say:
*for well qualified buyers

Higher risk = higher rate

These order agreements are pretty flimsy. It's hard to legally agree on MSRP and hold the dealer to it because these agreements don't guarantee you a Maverick and you don't guarantee to pay. COVP is the only method that "should" assure you that YOUR order is offered to you for sale first. But guaranteeing MSRP from beginning to end can shift like the wind without any legal recourse. That's why in Sept 2023 I interviewed multiple dealers to get a sense for which had integrity and I took a guess. I believe they will stick to MSRP. But in a week when I finally get mine I have little recourse if they change their mind.
There is little protection in this process.

If you can get a piece of paper that says your dealer promises to stick to MSRP and not do add ons and have it signed by the General Manager you might have legal grounds. But I doubt any dealer manager would sign such a thing during the custom ordering phase. If you don't have such a signed document now there probably isn't much you can do now.

As for your 3 orders forget the emails. If they can give you 3 VIN#s and 3 Order Numbers and you enter them in here: https://shop.ford.com/vehicleordertracking/status/
to verify they are legit then you should be good with 3 scheduled mavericks. I never received any email from Ford because of how the dealer entered my info. and things were fine. Only getting 1 email is just one of Ford's broken systems. If you have 3 VINs and 3 build dates then the dealer is correct that you shouldn't do a new 2024 order to backup these unless you separately want a 4th maverick.

Interest rates vary according to your credit score and what individual dealership might decide to offer. Unless its across an across the board special you won't find a universal interest rate published on Ford's site.

A "Buyer's Order" sometimes called a "Purchase Order"

It needs to list all costs/fees/taxes with a final total out-the-door price and be signed and dated by you and the Dealership's General/Sales Manager.

Only the Dealership's General/Sales Manager has the authority to sign a binding legal contract.

A post on this forum had a buyer in Hawaii find out the hard way that the salesman signature was worthless and his order had a $6,000 mark-up on it.

Here are two copies (with personal and signatures cropped) of my MY22 and MY23 "Buyer's Order".

Honest GM/SM that sign a purchase agreement when you order, subject to price changes from the manufacturer are honored. Many people on here have had them.

If your orders are confirmed scheduled you won't get a private offer if you order a 2024.

Unfortunately these dealers have their own set of rules, let's hope Amazon doesn't adopt this model of changing prices on delivery.

If the dealer pulls the " market adjustment " AKA steals the truck from you ask if they will split the profits w/ you when they sell the truck as the truck wouldn't exist if you didn't order.

And of course let everyone who will listen that the dealership is dishonest.

This. I was given an out the door price 10 months ago and dealer is planning to completely honor it.

I have a signed purchase agreement with all costs listed and total purchase price and have added written instructions that I do not want any dealership adds like undercoating, seat protection etc. they try to get extra money out of you with those automatic adds and extras when it arrives.
